Default April 7th....

....I wind up back at the training center for another two weeks of classes....then CPTs....then another oral....then more sim training....oh, and another check ride. Hopefully soon after that my pay check will see a significant increase, too.

Yeah, I've been in the books for a while now just trying to get a head start. Nice thing is the CA I'm flying with on my last trip (hopefully) as an FO will more than likely let me do all the flows for him. The past two trips, I've had CAs looking at me and saying "Okay. What now "captain?" just to get me used to doing all the decision making stuff. That's one of the great things about Pinnacle. You'll hear us complain all day about our management here, but we've got, IMO, one of the best pilot groups out there. If you need help on something or want to practice for upgrade, our guys will help you out.

If I've got time, I'll try to do a "blow by blow" of upgrade training on the forums similar to what I did for initial training WAY back in the day.

I had guys do that for me too. At first I thought it was cool. Then I realized they were just lazy.

Congrats man.

You guys are lucky, start to finish my upgrade was 10 days not including days off (I had 2 in the middle). That includes ground, CPT, sim, and checkride. I felt ready but would've liked a little more ground beforehand I think on "captain stuff" besides the charm school.

Congrats on the award!

AFAIK the failure rate is in the 5% range so I wouldn't say it's crazy. What do you guys do with 2 weeks of ground?!? I'd go nuts.

Way to go Steve! Are you going to be able to hold MEM or will you have to commute to those colder places?

I'm sure it is, but it's too cold for my SoCal blood! So that's why there no crime in the arctic!

This morning was the first time I drove into Minnesota...

Recap:
dense heavy fog (1/4 vis probably)
followed by some small hail
followed by rain
followed by heavy snow
a few hours later the sun came out

every weather phenomenon in a 6-8hr period

He will hold memphis. Actually he was pretty senior on his vacancy for Memphis. But he will probably be on reserve forever. FOR-EV-ER. haha....But I would rather be on reserve at home, than commute to a 10-12 day off line.

Yeah, I got MEM. Who knows? I looked at the PBS awards for MEM CA, and I would have been 10 from holding a line in April. I think if I went with a CDO line, I could probably nab that in about 6 months. The thing that's gonna kill me are the "base hoppers" that like to go from hub to hub collecting the per diem and the potential of MSP getting axed.

That's really nice of the other CA's helping you out. Glad you got MEM so you don't have to worry about commuting.

Everyone else: Heck, do you guys realize that a 5% failure rate is pretty darned high?
