| First solo to another airport! Got signed off to fly from WHP to EMT on Monday, and then did the flight alone yesterday!
It was great!
I'm still not used to the pattern away from the home airport, but its getting better, and I have plenty of time to practice!
And flying over Burbank coming home is really cool. I still get excited when I'm sharing the same airspace as those large jets. |

| Re: First solo to another airport! What could assist you with your patterns is to draw the airport and your anticipated position when your within 5 miles from the airport and just pencil in what your pattern will look like and just plan it all the way to your Final Leg. That seems to help. Ensure that your fully aware of the airport environment prior to arrival at your destination airport. I can rember my first solo cross country flight, quite an experience. You have the right attitude of wanting to improve and recognizing what needs to be done. Congratulations and keep at it. It will get better. All the best with your training. |

| Re: First solo to another airport! congrats!! i always felt like this was my most exciting flight cause you actually flew somewhere instead of just around the pattern...just seemed way more satisfying to me then my actual first solo! Keep it up!

My first airport I went to solo other than my home base was Talkeetna. That was a real confidence booster |

My approaching the airport to enter the pattern isn't an issue (at least not here) I find Im having a little trouble staying equidistant from the runway on downwind. Theres usually a little X-wind to judge a crab against. I also got spoiled at home where I started using landmarks to judge when to start turns. Gotta break that habit. |

| Re: First solo to another airport! That's awesome man. It really is such a liberating feeling. Do you get to pick where you go or is your instructor picking them for you? |

The first day the instructor was going to solo me I did not feel comfortable so I turned him down. The next three lessons were all with crazy crosswinds so I could not solo. Finally, last week I got to solo and it was great. You will forget all about being delayed once you are up there alone!
Congrats on the solo cross country! Hopefully if the weather cooperates, damn Northeast weather, I will do mine tomorrow. |

| Re: First solo to another airport! yeah buddy! Just did my first solo XC pretty recently. On my return I discovered people using BOTH runways! Hope yours went smoother. Wish I could figure out why people choose to land with a tailwind. |

| Re: First solo to another airport! Congrats on your XC solo. I just did my first solo today. So, now I can fly around the pattern, with some fine print... no winds over 5. So, my XC solo is my next goal. How many hours did you have? I am at 13 right now... now with a WHOLE .3 hours PIC. I am flying out of KVDF in tampa.
Happy Landings! |

Happy Landings! | After my first solo I had 0.6 PIC....my instructor jokingly dared me to send a resume to Fed Ex as he was logging the time.
Solo XC for me was almost exactly at 20 hours. |
