| Got a call for traffic watch! Totally out of the blue!
I interviewed with this guy back in November.
Never really heard back from him.
Now I get a call.
Trouble is I'm making $14.50/hr FT right now, and may soon move up to $18+ turning wrenches (less than ideal job, fantastic pay.)
Traffic watch pays MUCH less. But it's flight time...PIC even.
It would be a lot less crazy (read as: "life-threatening") than that skydiving gig I had.
Whatever shall I do?
....Livin' the dream.

Traffic watch pays MUCH less. But it's flight time...PIC even. | Two questions:
What do you want to do long-term...be a pilot?
Can you afford to live off the lower pay?
If you want to be a pilot, I don't see how turning wrenches will help you get there faster than flying.
However, bills still have to get paid, so if the traffic watch gig would make you starve, then don't bother with it. Quote:

It keeps them in line

Is it something like morning rush hour, big break in the day, then evening rush hour? Something in which you could make some money in between?

Low Pay - Again, most definitely.
I fly many an hour doing traffic watch up here in the MSP area. The flight school I work at is not too busy now so that is probably 2/3 of my flights every month. Quote:

Average 3 to 4 times per week for me, always in the afternoon. Someone else does the morning run. Still gotta pay the bills with my FT job during the day. |

If you want to be a pilot, I don't see how turning wrenches will help you get there faster than flying. | -I did some rough figuring last night and I think I could do it....barely.
-The mech. job would only serve to stockpile money to be able to take on a low-paying flight job for a few years....but I don't think I'd enjoy life for a while. Quote:

And yes. Quote:

| Re: Got a call for traffic watch! Dude! . . . congrats on the pro flying gig!
Get a gig at the airport in between the two flights . . . take the gig if you want to advance your career. How much multi do you have?
In 10 months you'll have the 1000! 45 per month brings you to 450 + your 565 gets you to the next step.

| Re: Got a call for traffic watch! I'd take the flying job if it allows you to pay the bills. Great time building opportunity and you don't have to despise going to work every day to repair trucks wishing you could be flying and getting paid for it.
Didn't you spend all your money on flying lessons to get a flying job?
If there is one thing I have learned being a CFI it is that once you get paid to fly, you can't go back to paying to fly. |
