What's the "vertical profile?"

Vertical profile is an option we select on our MFD. Say we're given "Cross blank intersection at 14000"...we enter 14000 in the FMS next to that intersection and the vertical profile shows us at what point to begin a 3 degree descent in order to cross it at said altitude...as well as an audible tone. I likey...
