|  I cut off my sideburns For those that remember me from NJC Vegas, the sideburns are gone. I thought I should look a little more professional since I got my Commercial Multi yesterday. I did it in a Piper Geronimo (PA-23-180) at Calaveras. It was my initial commercial and multi engine and I'm stoked. 19 years old with 250/30. I'm calling up all my contacts in the bay area to see if there's any work I can do while I get my CFI and CSEL. Let me know if anyone has any leads. Here's the anecdote from the ride: The examiner and my instructor go way back. They both lived in Sonoma, I think she did some training with him when she got started in aviation. The last thing we did on the ride was the short field. I landed within 5 feet of the touch down point, the end of the second stripe. It's not hard, the airfoil is the same as a cub and it will just float until you cut the power. We pulled off the runway and she said good job on the landing. I told her it's definetely the maneuver I'm best at, except in practice I would try so hard to land on the point, I could come up short. She told me she was going to screw with my instructor and tell him I failed on the short field. I took that as a pass, she hadn't told me I'd passed yet. She walks over to him, I'm behind the airplane because I'm just smiling too much. "He just needs a little more work on those short fields." "What? He's great at them! I guess in practice he came up a foot short." Totally got him. It was priceless. |

| Re: I cut off my sideburns I was getting so much free flying time in Sonoma I went back to build for my commercial. It worked out when I got a good deal on renting a Clipper and the Geronimo. |

Got my checkpoint, then a diversion to Placerville. Once I was headed to it and saw it, we went towards Stockton. While I was copying the ATIS, she pulled the right engine. I feathered it, then restarted. I shot the VOR in to Stockton, went missed, then ILS single engine. Did a single engine landing then taxied back (towards the wrong runway). Got the runway situation figured out, then flew back towards Calaveras. Slow flight, stalls, Vmc demo, steep turns. She'd give me headings to fly so we were heading back the right way. We went back to land, on final she told me to go around and then pulled the right engine on departute leg. I simulated feather, then on downwind she told me I had it back. I did a short field and was done. 2.2 on the hobbs. Looking back, I would have done more single engine approaches. Those were pretty rough. I'd only done 2 before, and 6 approaches in the airplane total. Rereading the oral exam guide, there was so much I studied we didn't cover. It's just I didn't know what she would ask. | ||
