Default Just a Newbie Saying Hi

I just wanted to say hello to everyone on the forums. I joined yesterday and find JC to be a really helpful resource so far. I've found some really helpful posts and "goodies" on the homepage.

A little bit about myself--I'm 16 and live in Wisconsin and hope to be a pilot someday. I don't have any licenses or ratings yet, but I want to get a PPL once I get to college. Besides flying, I like playing tennis, hunting, fishing, yatah, yatah, yatah. I'm really looking forward to posting more and you can be sure I'll be full of questions !

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone ! To answer your question, Mooney, I live near Milwaukee, about 10 minutes away from MKE airport. I would LOVE to get my PPL right now but I'm also saving up for a trip to Spain and even with my job, coming up with 6-10K will be hard. But if I can work more hours during the summer...who knows, maybe I will come up with the money.

Otherwise, I'd like to get my PPL and all my ratings at an FBO near my future college since I hear ATP and the "fancy academies" aren't worth the money.

Hi Adam,

Welcome .

You're at a great age to start. I'm 44, going on 45, and am only now starting out in my aviation career... actually training for it to "change" careers...

If I could give you one piece of advice, with what I've gained through my years, I would say don't delay... start as soon as you can.... if this is really something yo want to do, start as soon as you can, because before you know it, life catches up and takes you in a direction you never thought about... then 29 years later you wake up and realize that you're not living your dream, and 16 still only seems like yesteday to me....

Cheers, and again, welcome...

Thanks for the advice, Jack . I think if I put enough hours in at work, I can come up with enough money to get my student's license (my friend is working on his for about $1000 including plane rentals and fuel). Then I can start building up more hours. I doubt I'll be able to come up with enough to get my PPL before I graduate high school, but I hope to get it by freshman or sophomore year in college.

Ahh, I thought you were from Wisconsin because of your signature. I agree with it 100% by the way .
