Default Rained out

Well heck, today was supposed to be they day i try a controlled crash...er I mean landing. But Indiana weather screwed this up.

Any how the next time I get to fly will be the first time i get to land the plane on my own.

I am learning in a 172R great planes to fly, after getting the thing trimmed out its pretty easy. I haven't had any difficulty yet with any thing. I love these little planes.

Any advice for a first timmer on approach and landing at a small FBO.

Good luck on the weather and the landings! For me, my landings got a lot better when I learned when to stop looking at the numbers and start looking down the runway. I line up with the runway looking at the numbers, but when I have the runway "made" and start pulling the power I start to focus down the end of the runway. Then I feel much more confident in judging my height above the runway. Practicing short and soft field landings helped develop this sense of judging the height while looking down the end of the runway.

Generally, when I get in trouble is when I'm so focused on my cross-wind correction or clearing the imaginary 50' obstacle that I forget to change my focus down the runway in time. If I'm staring at the numbers at 20' above the runway I'll balloon for sure.

May be different for you - I fly a Warrior II, not a 172 (though I have a few training hours in those, too.) I love flying the little planes, too.

I generally fly at a local short runway FBO, and it's a little more exciting than the longer runways at the local towered airport. The thing that is most annoying for me is that when I'm on the downwind, the short runway means I have less time to do my BCGUMPS and set up for landing. First time at a towered airport with a 5000' runway, it was so relaxing - felt like I had all day to set up.

Don't know if this helps - I just like to babble about flying. Good luck with the weather and the landings!

landing is just awesome, every time. It's fun trying to see how soft you can get it.

Landing on wide runways is a lot easier than narrow ones.
