| Hello all! My name is Brandon Noble. Long time browser...I am happy to finally be part of the aviation world. Little background on me...I am 23 yrs old, graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University in 2006. The summer of 2006 I put 10 hrs in on a 152 with a CFI. Great experience but I still needed time to really get a feel for the industry. October 2006 I relocated to Atlanta, GA and began working on the ramp for Delta Air Lines (A concourse, gates A27-34 for all you Delta mainliners). Huge Doug Taylor fan! Again I had a great experience at Delta, learned a lot about the industry and I now know I am ready to saddle up and get down to it. Now where the money part comes in...I know you have heard it all before. I moved back to Kalamazoo, MI to possibly attend Western Michigan. It offers a great flight school unfortunately, I have put my past education at MSU on my back. I owe 60K and I just do not want to add more debt. I am currently looking for a full time job that would enable me to fly at a FBO. I am looking to fly approx. 3 times a week (MI weather pending). How long should it take to receive ratings, anyone have any advice. I am a hard dedicated worker and I am ready to get things moving. Any advice would be appreciated! I look forward to meeting everyone and I appreciate the help through the process of gaining those three stripes. Thanks! ![]() |

| Big Chief's Woman | long time browser....love that! Why would you go back to a college for flight school? FBO route will probably be more economically compatible. From what i hear, ratings can be received as fast as you want (or can afford) to get them. I heard some people take a few years.. I've seen one guy take less than a year...so it just depends on your motivation and your instructors schedule(s). Am I right guys?? Welcome to JC ![]() |

| You have your degree, no need for WMU. Training at the FBO is great, but at three times a week, it could take you a year to go from PPL to CPL. That's fine, too, as you should put staying out of debt as a higher priority than "getting there now for the seniority number". Do what's best for you. The jobs will be there, one way or another, when you're ready.

| Welcome aboard. I live around AZO(about few miles off airport) when I am not working. There are FBOs around AZO area. MI weather can be interesting at winter time. Any questions, feel free to ask. I think there are few JCers who lives around AZO. Welcome aboard.

| I am working on my PPL at an FBO a lot easier for me, but I am not worrying about cost as I am not paying for it out of pocket, I got The VA to help me out with the cost. I can get my PPL and as fast as I want. I fly every day that weather permits. I am in Indiana and comming up on winter I am trying to get my PPL before the real bad weather hits. I can squeeze in 30 more hours before that, hopefully. |
