Default Getting my private pilot license

I just retired from the Marine Corps after 26 years I will start working on those flight hours to get my license. Just how hard is the test and what are some good study aids.

I was a dispatcher in the Marines and now i find out ya gotta be certified to work as a dispatcher in the real world.

It's not hard if you study and understand the material. Start reading up on it even before you fly, get familiar with the terms and things will click in.

As far as the knowledge test Gleim is the way to go. Study the book or watch the DVD's and you'll do fine. Gleim, ASA or a pilot shop also have good material for PTS standards.

Also suggest:
1. Flight Training Handbook. Published by FAA
2. The Complete Private Pilot. Bob Gardner. Published by ASA
2. An Invitation To Fly. By Dennis Glaeser, Sanford Gum, Bruce Walters
3. Aviation Weather Services. AC 00-45D Published by NOAA and FAA
4. Aviation Weather. AC 00- 6A Published by FAA

Items 1 - 4 are found at Sporty's, ASA, Aircraft Sprunce or any decent pilot shop.

Lastly, you might want to look at your local Community College in order to knock out the ground school and written. I went this route for Private, Instrument and Commercial and the test was a no brainer.

Good luck!

There are some really nice study aids out there. The King Schools videos come to mind. Go to youtube.com and search for "King Schools" and you'll see sample videos. Also, there are some really nice books online that have all the material you need (go to faa.gov)... the only bad thing is you'll need plenty of paper and ink to print all that stuff .
