| #1 son received his "congratulations" letter today and has been accepted to the engineering program at the University of Michigan for the fall of 2008! We are very happy (and relieved) tonight... Kevin

| Thanks everyone... Michigan is actually (just barely) his second choice; University of Illinois is choice #1 and they tell all early admits on December 15th, so we have to wait until then! Kevin

| Agent Smith | Congrats! My father in law is an alumni of Mich Tech as well is my brother in law. Michigan apparently has rock-solid engineering programs so he's in good hands! Which type of speciality is he going into? I've got a civil/environmental engineeress lounging on the couch about four feet away if you've got questions.

| Kevin - that's awesome! Both of my nephews did their undergrad and grad work at U of M....and of course, our Miss Short One is an alumni. ![]() Congratulations! p.s. I sent you the link about my cousin who teaches engineering at Illinois/Urbana Something about design of earthquake mainframes and servers. Maybe I should call him - his brother worked for the aircraft division at GE in Cincinnati.Michigan is a great school though. Very cool!Last edited by SkyCougar; October 30th, 2007 at 01:08. |

| Excellent! My younger brother got his undergrad and masters degrees in mechanical engineering from U of M. Great program! Fun town, too.

| Tell him congrats, and congrats to you and your wife staplegun! I am a freshman here at the University of Michigan and I am also in the school of engineering. Hopefully by this time next year I will be taking some aerospace classes! Feel free to PM me with any questions. It's an awesome place here. Tell him good luck with his decision! |

| Your other son must feel horrible knowing that you refer to the other son as number 1. Makes me wonder why my dad always called me number 2.

I also refer to the 2 of them as "the heir and the spare..." Seriously, the wife and I are consciously very even-handed and they both know that the love and the expectations are shared equally, even though they are very different personalities... Kevin

| michigan tech is way to far up in BFE, and UM has a better engineering program (in general) than tech. Also, more opportunity to socialize with the females at Michigan, other programs if he should change his mind about engineering (ala, me) etc. |

| Old Skool | Yeah I wouldn't be too interested in going to Tech, or Northern...or Central....or pretty much any school north of Lansing to tell you the truth. Michigan is already cold enough, and I thought going to school on the west side of Michigan Was bad. I couldn't imagine having to deal with Marquette or Houghton/Hancock in the middle of February. And as Emily said, if he changes his major then he's hosed if he goes to a strictly engineering school. I went to Western Michigan University to study aviation, and ended up studying TheShortOne and obtaining a degree in philosophy, both of which have served me quite well thus far. |

| Old Skool | I liked Tech for the Winters. If you like winter sports, its the place to be! I liked the smaller school also. I just went home for the weekend every now and again to get warm. ![]() I understand about if you need to change your studies, but if you want Engineering its a great choice. I looked at Purdue and UM also, decided on Tech for multiple reasons, the biggest was the combo degree I wanted. Kevin's son will have fun at UM, just has to remember to study!

He wants a big school because he is a drummer on his high school drum-line and wants to continue that in college. That's why Michigan & Illinois are high on the list, they are both great engineering schools with Big-Ten big-time marching bands... Kevin
