| Senior Member | Thanks. LOFT- a Line Orientated Flight Training ride is where they put me and a brand new captain together and they see how we work together. It's just like a real flight from X airport to Y airport. They'll make us work through an emergency and what not... The PC check was maneuvers and a lot of approaches... The LOFT ride is more like a real life flight. Thanks... Yeah, I don't have any beer so water will suffice for now....

Is the LOFT flight a training event or a checkride event? I start EMB 145 on 10/25 so I'm digging in to the profiles and flows. What's she like to fly?

LOL! Great shots GDP! Congratulations... and welcome to the fray! Enjoy the LOFT! (It's officially a "non-jeopardy" training event...) IAH-Saltillo... Bleed leak just past Palacios VOR... Run the checklist CAREFULLY... If you shut down the affected engine then most likely diverting to CRP... you'll be practically on top of it by the time the checklist is complete... so be sure and slow it down and ask for appropriate descending vectors... Land and call MX... take a break... back in for CRP to Saltillo, real time... Normal ops, except almost no vis and the VOR/DME 2 to RWY 17, arc'ing it in to final. Several stepdowns that happen fast... get low and slow early on the arrival... take your time... use all your needles and bearing pointers for sit. awareness... enjoy... that last 5 minutes of the approach is very labor intensive. Bob

Thanks Bob... yeah, our instructor told us what "MIGHT" happen on the LOFT ride... I guess the 'IF' sections mess some people up on the QRH. I did pretty good with the Leon, MX DME arc, hopefully this will go just as good, but I'll be sure to be ready for anything... Hey, hopefully we'll fly together someday... I'm hoping to get LAX or ONT Thanks again!

Si senor.... F/O for now.... If I would have gone to the interview back in 05 when they first called me, I might have been a Capi pretty soon....

| Junior Member | Well... is it heavy on the controls? Touchy? Easy to fly? What was the hardest thing about learning to fly it?

Congrats, awesome job! It's a good feeling and a nice accomplishment. Yeah, the LOFT is supposed to be no-jeopardy I guess, but I know of guys that have washed out of upgrade becase of it. I'm sure you'll be fine though. |
