I don't post that often but this might be useful to anyone with a checkride coming up. Completed the oral a week ago but had to cxcl the flight due to IFR conditions. I found a lot of people posting their experience on here helpful so here's my run down on the flight portion today.... Aircraft; C152 (a beast of a plane!!) Weather - clear skies for the most part, a bit of a wind to consider at the surface but nothing too challenging, the same at altitude. Started off with a short field TO, trip around the pattern for a Soft Field landing, transitioned into a Soft Field TO, back again for a normal landing with the DPE calling for a go around a few feet from the Runway. From there set off on the XC (used a combination of my own flight plan and VOR for navigation), after reaching cruise altitude (on schedule!!) he had me point out where I was on the map and pretty much said that was it for navigation. Hoodwork, maintain course and altitude, combination of turning climbs and descents. Then he had me close my eyes, head down, maintain what you percieve to be straight an level, now turn, open eyes and instrument recover (nose down recovery). Steep turns, stalls and slow flight. He tuned in a random VOR and had me fly to it (for about 30 seconds!) Simulated engine out of course. Return to the airport and a do a no flap landing with a forward slip. He let me know i passed once we got clear of the active and went through the after landing check list (one of the most pleasant taxi back to the ramp I've had!). Definitely was well prepared so the checkride wasn't that stressful. I know everyone likes to know how long it took, how many hours etc... Part 141 school - Started last weekend in May, flew for the most part every Saturday and Sunday, cancellations were minimum during the summer but late August and September kind of sucked (combination of weather and equipment problems). 62 hrs now in the log book. Looking forward to putting more hours on there and getting started on the instrument rating. Thats about all I can remember for now....... Now if you excuse me there's a frosty beverage in the fridge with my name on it..... |

I flew out of Hanscom field in Bedford. A busy Class D airport. First flight as a private pilot? Not too sure yet but it will be early morning to a small airport that serves omlettes!! |

Sounds good. I work at KBED as a line tech but do most of my flying out of KFIT. Did you have the great R.C. as your examiner? Your ride sounded a lot like mine.

Haha....yep, RC was my examiner. Do you work the Exec line? What's the school like in KFIT? (I did check it out online). I'm looking into alternatives right now in the area for the instrument rating, heading down to Plymouth and Mansfield today to check out what they have to offer. Any advice on schools is greatly apreciated! | |

CONGRATS!!!!!!!! Look forward to flying in the clouds, it is by far one of the best parts of flying! Breaking out on an ILS 200 feet above the ground or breaking through a cloud layer and being on top are awesome experiences!
