Just finished my first day of Captain IOE. It was a ton of fun and I am beginning to learn just what it means to earn the title and become a good Captain. My check airman is doing a great job of being an FO and letting me make decisions on my own. Good stuff for sure. Oh, and it is too hot in Tucson for this Colorado guy. I waved to you PHX folks on my way by tonight! Time for sleep! Cheers! |

Watch out for 11L being closed in TUS. My FO wanted to land on 11R which is 75' wide. I quickly put an end to that. I told him its not that I think you can't do it, its just my career on the line for a little mistake you might make. We're taking 29! BTW- the minimum turning radius on the CRJ is 75' and its a mandatory back taxi on the runway if you land beyond A13. Go figure! oh and the IOE thing, congrats. Here come the white hairs. Be happy you ain't got any growing on your chest like this old man! 27 and white hairs on my chest. Ladies dig white hairs on the chest............what am I smokin? ladies dig beta! I mean....uhhhhh. |

Congrats bike. There mus tbe no better training than cap'n training. there are very few people that are born and raised in az. I have known maybe two or three people that have. atleast in phoenix anyways. it might be different in tucson though.

Thanks for the kudos everyone! Day 2 was great as well, long legs for us to chat about things and some good story sharing for me to learn from. We landed 29L last night in TUS, the check airman wanted me to see it. It was good to do and rolled down to the end like you talked about. Fun times! I already have a couple of gray hairs sprouting on the melon, so we shall see how many more come in the next few months ![]() Just got into LAX, time for a margarita and fish tacos! |

29L/11R is indeed a freaky runway, especially with the funky winds.

Also have more white hairs now since upgrade last year. Wait til you hit your 30's, then it tries to grow out your ears and nose but decides that the top of your head isn't as important anymore. None of that matters though cause my wife digs beta. All white hairs, nose hairs, chest, back and . . gonad hairs aside . . . (Thanks for the image Seggy.) the left seat is much, much better than the right. Enjoy Bike!!

You are going to love being a Captain. It is a blast! Even with the added stress. I'm passing through TUS twice next week. I can't wait... it's always interesting going in there.
