Take the first class they give you because in the long run day to day seniority determines your life at the airline. One number might mean if you upgrade in April or June. If you have a line or on reserve.

| Congrats Sgt., I am a new hire and start training Sept 24th with Colgan. It's funny, I have the same situation as yourself. Problem is my wife might have to do the move while I'm in training. We just bought a house is southern Mass. Thank God she's understanding! I too am a former Marine, '89-'93, 0311. Tough training? We've seen tough training, 2D Recon Bn. Semper Fi.

| Good to have a fellow Marine in the game with me. I just got the call today and was offered the first class for the Q in early November so the timing will work out well. Only problem is I am not sure whether or not I can or will take the Q. It is based out of EWR when I wanted MHT, I wanted a 12 month upgrade when I am looking at probably closer to 24 months and although captain pay is better I will be at poverty level fo pay for an extra year, I can afford it since my wife makes good money I am just not sure If I want to. I dont know what the options are though because I was not technically offered the saab, just the Q

| Old Skool | They are putting the higher time guys into the Q. Take the Q. You are going to be one of the highest seniority guys on the airplane which means good QOL, more days off, once you get to the line. Upgrades will slow here anyway once they implement the age 65 rule. [begin rant] This isn't directed at you, but there are some guys at my company that want to work here so they can be 'at home at night'. This is an airline guys, you wanted to be an airline pilot. Being away from home on overnights is part of the deal. [end rant]

| thanks seggy, I value the oppinions of guys like you who are there. After talking to my wife and a few other people I plan on taking the Q. I think it will be a great oppurtunity to fly a great airplane and yes, not being based 30 minutes from home would not be the ideal situation but it certainly could be worse. Its like signing up for the Marines and being p-o'd they deployed me, its just the way it works. Who knows....maybe some PWM oustation basing in the future. quick training question...I am assuming that travel does not apply until after IOE (not sure who I could non rev on from montreal anyway)? If you go home one weekend during training is it on my dime?

| Old Skool | Outstation basing is going away at Colgan. It sucks thank god it is. We will be serving MHT on the Q so at least the commute will be on your own airline for higher priority. You will probably be even to bid MHT overnights so actually, you will have more nights at home then. Stick with the Q. Not sure how they are doing the travel. It has been two years since I went through from start to finish of ground school it took 28 days.

| I would take the Q. It will serve you better in the long run. I know it sounds good to be home every night, but if outstation is going away then the Q will have been a good choice for one of several reasons. Since your wife works that will help out with the extended time as a FO . It sounds like a good deal though to be a part of a new branch with Colgan and who know's, might end up being a great gig! Then again, what do I know, I haven't even started training yet. Good luck either way bro !

| thanks guys...sounds like it may be the Q then how would you work the commute ie... early friday am show time, fly to ewr crashpad on thursday night and then after your last trip (3-4 days) you would fly home? I am assuming it is next to impossible and no one would just commute daily. MHT is only a 35 minute drive but that might get tricky trying to drive that everyday and then manage to find a seat and then fly to ewr and fly home and repeat...ok never mind that would suck

| Old Skool | Congrats on getting hired. Now the bad part. There are a crap-ton of New England => EWR commuters. Dad does it, It sucks. Hopefully you'll be able to get on the non-stops in the JS of the Q. That may be the only way out of MHT for you. A good number of guys take surface transportation to BOS and commute from there. BTW the CO agents at BOS are the best. They will board a delayed flight early with the non-revs on board and when its full of revenue standbys from later flights, "it's full". I've done BOS-EWR several times and never seen a non-rev that is on the airplane get pulled.
