Congrats. I don't know about you, but I was amazed at how quickly the plane left the ground without the weight of my instructor on board. What a thrill!

![]() Thanks everyone. I was very excited. I pretty much knew I would probably be soloing last night, so my roommate came to watch and some of the airport bums that I love so much were there to watch too. They cheered me on a little over the radio. I was so nervous though that I'm surprised Ryan was willing to get out of the plane. My normal, decently relaxed state was no where to be found last night. I was so nervous that I started the engine and didn't even put the brakes in... gawd that was embarrassing. I won't even tell you some of the other stupid things I did last night but we did a couple of touch and goes and I loosened up and went back to doing what I knew to do, so by the time he got out, I was feeling a little better. I still made sure to get a hug first though. lol I'm a huggy kind of person. Anyways, I think I did great. I was proud of myself. And once I actually got up there alone, it wasn't nearly as horrifying as I thought it would be. My biggest fear is that I would get up there and get too scared to land on my own, but that of course did not happen. So then the six of us went and had dinner and an overall good time! I couldn't drink last night because I still had to drive home and get up for work early the next morning, but I'm still promised a little booze to celebrate the occassion at a later time!!! | |||

Congratulations and keep up the good work! It seems like so long ago but I remember every second of my first solo. I didn't get a hug from my instructor before I left though...maybe that's a good thing though. He was a big burly marine and people may have started to talk. Brokeback Airport and all.

Pam, Congratulations on attaching a severely hyperventilating body to a vibrating metal craft and flinging both at moderately great speeds into the wild blue yonder. And then with one hand in a death grip on the yoke, and the other hand clutching the throttle, hurtling them repeatedly earthward with complete disregard for Newtonian physics in a glorious combination of woman and machine. (Oh, BTW, I'm not this corny... I'm plagarizi--plaigairisin-- COPYING from the Air Force Pilot training solo certificate. But a heartfelt congrats anyways!) When exactly was this deed, did? I haven't been on JC for a little while.

yep, folks..pam did a really superb job, especially considering it was beginning to get late. her last landing was at dusk and the landing light wasn't working (of course that was caught on her preflight ). she got to do a night landing last week, getting a taste of the night time visual illusion of being too high near touchdown. anyway, she makes a wonderful student pilot, particularly with regards to consistency..easily one of my best, if not the best, on her radio calls and her procedures in the traffic pattern in general. she's going to continue to make excellent progress..well on her way. congratulations on completing the first phase of your flight training - the first solo.
