I've been selected as this year's primary candidate to attend USAF UPT(undergraduate pilot training) to fly the mighty Herk for Channel Islands Air Guard Station. I probably won't be going for a while, so until then I will continue slingin' chains and smashin' loads! |

Thanks everybody - I was selected last year as an alternate, so there's a still a chance I could go within the year. Otherwise, I won't go until FY'09. Zondaracer - My GPA was 3.52 but my other scores were pretty much average, nothing special, and I only have a measley 15.2 hours of flying time. To tell you the truth, I was probably one of the least competitive candidates that met the board as far as "numbers" go. If want to be seriously competitive in the Guard, you need to join the unit. I have been a loadmaster for 4 years now, and have shared beers, shared laughs, deployed to war, and been on the road with every one of the pilots that were on the panel. They know me and my work history and (thankfully) they felt that those qualities carried much more weight than any numbers would. So, with that being said, my next step is to build as much flight time as possible before I go so I am not left behind in the dust! |
