Default So long!

Well, the day has finally come.

I'm leaving jetcareers.

Nah, don't get your hopes up!

As I discussed with some people in SOCAL and others through AIM,etc, I have made the decision to drop out of Air Force ROTC. I was able to officially disenroll this morning and leave on a good foot with the commander willing to write a recommendation letter.

Now on to my ultimate goal: Get hired at a guard unit! My test scores are extremely competitive and I'm very confident that I will get calls from guard units. Now I just need to do some networking and make those connections.

For those in and looking at the AFROTC program, it's the easiest way to get a pilot slot: it just wasn't the best option for me.

Yes, it is 146x more competitive to get on with a guard unit. It is a risk to drop out of ROTC and try for a guard unit, but it's something I've got to do. There's always OTS, and I still have the option to re-enroll in ROTC during my graduate studies.

FF is once again a civilian!

From our dinner conversation in SOCAL (remember when I bought you dinner??), this seemed to be the direction that suited you best. Good luck! Everything will to fall into place sometime.

Do you think you would recommend AFROTC at all? I think if I do go the military route that I will probably go through the ANG, but I'm still "researching." Tis a big committment...

I'd recommend ROTC for anyone. Not only will the USAF pay for your school (if you're an engineering major), but you'll have a great shot at a pilot slot. I would have stayed in ROTC if my test scores and resume were not as competitive as they are. I really think I have a shot at getting hired by a guard unit, so I've got to give it my all.

Can I ask what you didn't like about ROTC and why you dropped out?

The reason I disenrolled is in my original post.

If you'd like to discuss the other thing you asked about, feel free to PM me.

I was just curious because I probably would be in ROTC or at one of the academies if not for a medical problem.
