| As some of ya'll know, I was a youth football coach in Tampa for six seasons. In the years that followed, I've had the pleasure of watching my former players go on to high school football glory, and a select few, on to the college gridiron. This year marks the graduation year of the last of the young men that I coached. From that class, below is a list of who they are, their position and where they are going: Robert Marve QB University of Miami (only QB recruited by UM this year. Was our backup QB for a year, starting WR. Dad played LB for Buffalo Bills) Chris Johnson WR University of Wyoming (one of the most graceful athletes I can remember coaching. Kid had RAW talent at a very young age. Could cut like an antelope. Also very, very funny.) Armondo Murillo DB University of Nebraska (Very gifted athlete. Played WR & DB for us. Always a starter.) Last year, two of "my boys" were awarded full rides to: Marcillo Trigg QB Bucknell (kid's a math GENIUS and one hell of a QB. Could run the offense at age 11) Javier Arenas DB University of Alabama (started as a true freshman and ran back a punt for a TD. Was the smallest kid on our team, but played with the biggest heart) In the years past, we've seen our players move on to schools such as: Vanderbilt Florida Atlantic University of South Florida Cornell East Tennessee Carnegie Mellon I cannot tell you how proud I am to have been associated with these young men, to have had a part in mentoring them in their early days! Hopefully, something I taught them will stay with them throughout their careers and whether they go on to the next level in football or go pro in a different career, I pray they are all model citizens and successful leaders. I'm a proud, proud man!! ![]() God speed men!!! Stan

| Old Skool | Good job, R2F. I wish I had the time to coach, I was asked by my former to coach at West L.A. College. Something I wish I always did.

| Never count it out, bro. I don't have time now either, but I hope to someday again. It's very rewarding (frustrating as hell at times too = parents), but in the end, it's all worth it.

| Probably not many. He's listed at 5'7" / 175 lbs., so not your prototypical college WR.

| I know how that feels. I coached youth football for about 7 years. I was a basketball official for about 12 or so years and baseball umpire for about 10. Youth basketball parents love to rag you but when you turn to them and tell them if they can do a better job come join us the reponse was "I dont have time" so I would say I dont have time to listen to you whine anymore either. After the games its amazing how many great officials there are in the stands.

haha, so true. I coached and ref'd intramural basketball for 4 years while in college, and man its hard work. I would get distracted sometimes and just be watching the game hehe. Makes it even harder when you are the only ref on the court as well ![]() To the OP, Congrats on your players that has to be amazing to watch them grow up and become stars. | |

Or you could always go with, "What color is your shirt?" then you get the confused the look in their face, "Huh?" then you answer, "when your shirt is black and white stripes, then I'll listen, otherwise, sit down, enjoy the game and be quiet." BTW, R2F....I apoligize if I hijacked your thread into officiating. Congrats on getting your guys through it all. I know I have seen a few kids move on from the games I ref'd to D1 ball. It is definetly exciting. Good on You....
