| hey ppl. I have been reading JC for almost a year now off and on and finally decided to join and start posting. A little about me im 22, in the Air Force as a c-130 crew chief, e-4, currently deployed to iraq. When I am not in Iraq reside in Little Rock on active duty, only for the next year and a half . I have been training on and off for about 2 yrs now for my ppl, deployments and finances get in the way for me too complete the license. So thats a little about me, heres my question. I have accumulated about 25 hrs so far soloed in 4.7, and after I get back to the states I will have the time and money too complete my PPL, finally. This is my question until my enlistment is up I will prolly be deployed at least 2 more times over here for a duration of usually about 4 months each. After my enlistment I am wanting to use my GI Bill to attend Ari Ben and get all my ratings, instruct and hopefully get a right seat at a Regional. So should I wait till I am almost out to get my PPL or should I just go ahead and get it when I get home this time, and just fly in between my deployments??? Any knowledgable advice would be appreciated and anything about Ari Ben also...... Thanks guys/girls |

| Welcome!! I am also from the LIT area, but currently undergoing indoc for Chautauqua in Indianapolis, where it's FRICKIN COLD. I would go ahead and finish up the private as soon as possible. That way, you won't have to retake any tests or work for any more endorsements that may have expired when you were deployed. Good luck!

| Welcome to the board! I would recommend getting your license if time and money permits. It is a greta accomplishment that will make you want to work harder toward the end goal. You can build time for your instrument rating between deployments, and maybe even get a lesson or two to give you a heads up. When I was a flight instructor I had several students that were in the Army. The good ones would try to take books across the pond to study a little in "free time". I had one student that had just soloes, went to Iraq for like 10 months, came back and in the first week home went and took his private and instrument writtens (scored above 90% on both). So that is my insight. |

| Welcome aboard, try to get your ppl ASAP. as it was mentioned that will create a stronger will for you to go ahead with the other ratings. |

| Welcome JBPetty! Hey I think I might have some useful info on your situation. I'm ex-USAF currently at Ariben using the GI Bill to help with expenses. I've been in practically the same situation you're in now. Why don't you PM me and we'll talk. See ya.
