Default Hello Everyone

Well, I've been regularly reading posts off of this forum for nearly a year and a half now, and I've finally decided to join. Doug has done a really nice job of putting this site together and everyday I'm amazed at the wealth of information and opinions that these forums have to offer. I feel like I already know you guys, haha.

Anyways, a little about me. I live in Orlando (lived here for 11 years) and am a sophmore at UCF (don't really like the school). I finished my PPL in June of 2005 and did my training at Avion Air Academy, based out of Sanford, FL (KSFB). I have very few friends and absolutely no family who fly. With wet rental rates of $100 an hour to fly, most of the time I just try to stay current. Although I'd love to continue on with an instrument rating or multi-engine add on, money is holding me back. I'm looking to fly more, so if there's anybody who wants a safety pilot in the area, just holla.

Ryan

To make a long story short, I'm leaning towards Accounting. I'm great with computers, but computer programming is too complicated and bores me to death, and decent salaries with a degree in IT are hard to come by.

I think one of the biggest reasons I don't like UCF is that I feel like nothing has changed with my life and I'm in highschool all over again (unlike some of my other friends who left town to go to another college). I live at home, about 7 minutes from the main campus, and only drive over when I either have classes or want to work out. I wish I could move out so I could get the "real" college experience. My parents aren't bad people in any way, but they just drive me nuts and I am starting to wonder if they're affecting my college social life! I'm considering moving out of the house for the fall 2007 semester, but I feel that the money used to pay for an expensive apartment in orlando could be better used by putting it towards another rating in the long run- but I would have to continue living at home.

Welcome to JC! I had the same option...go to the local college or move away to another college. I moved away and I'm glad I did. I'm so happy with my decision that when I have kids I'm making them get away once they graduate high school. Many of my friends stayed home to go to the local college and most of them regret it. Yes it's more money but I feel the experience is definitely worth it. And I was an accounting major for 2 years. Loved it but decided to go another route. Good luck and welcome to JC!

well if you move down south, I could always use another pilot to go flying!

most of the time I go fly with friends, but another PP at least could be better

I agree.. you really can't get the college experience while living at home. save that rating for another day, you've got time to get all that... but you only in college for oh so long... go enjoy it!
