My first student now a pilot.

Well, I must admit it feels great. My first student passed his checkride this morning in Topeka. Its a great feeling to start from scratch with a student and see them all the way through to their goal. There were many ups and downs with weather delays but all in all we got him finished up in 21 days, with a good 10 of those days lost to weather.

He had 40.3 when he did the checkride.

Soloed at 12 hours. Would have been 8 with decent weather.

Congrats, and very impressive, especially with respect to time. I'm signing off my first zero-to-pilot on Monday. Yikes! It took us 3 months or so.

Some curiosity questions: how much did you fly with this student each day? How long were his lessons, and did you fly more than once per day? Do you think that hitting the training intensively like that helps the student retain more? You're student must have been very motivated to put in the work to finish up that quickly. Damn nice job, both of you.

He was here for 21 days and we flew on 10 of those days, damn weather you know. Anyways, we flew anywhere from 2.5 to 5 hours a day. We ground schooled during down times. I do believe that intense training is better, it allows for less time to lose those skills and have to review constantly.
