It's funnier that all he does is correct mis-spelled words. Really if you can understand what the person is trying to convey, i see no bigey.

However, i would appreciate a bigey!

Nope. "It's" is a contraction for "It is".

I believe you're (You are ) thinking of "Its' "which conveys ownership but is generally poor use of the English language. Interestingly, I just looked it up and the dictionary (Merriam Webster online) just lists the possesive form as "its" with no punctuation.

That seriously needs to changed. It may not be the "best" grammar but it works. I'm sick and tired of having to go back and allow microsoft word to ignore every place I've said "it's."

It's been awhile but I seem to remember that you can go into the spell/grammer check and write a rule that will instruct Word to skip it. Takes care of your problem!

Jason

It's (It is) hard to tell if you two are being completely serious, or if you're (you are) joking around. When two words are combined to make one, letters are usually dropped, an apostrophe (') added, and a new word, called a contraction, is formed. Will not becomes won't, has not becomes hasn't, she will becomes she'll, they are becomes they're, and it is becomes it's.

Apostrophes are also used to form the possessive of many nouns. The airplane that belongs to Doug is Doug's, the headset that belongs to Steve is Steve's, and the dictionary that belongs to Jason is Jason's. If the same rule were applied to the noun "it," ambiguity and confusion would result. What is the name that it has? It's name is Winston? (It is name is Winston?) No. Since "It's" is a contraction, it can't (can not) be the possessive. It's (It is), therefore, one of the exceptions in rules of grammar (not grammer). The possessive form of it is its, no apostrophes, anywhere. (There's (there is) no its'.)

Nice airplane. What's (What is) its (that which relates to it) top speed?

Its (that which realates to it) top speed is 235 knots.

Wow. So, it's (it is) pretty fast, huh?

Well, it's (it is) pretty fast, but I like its (that which belongs to it) comfortable cabin even more.

I don't think you should be changing any of Word's grammar checking rules.
