OK... so... it's official! I'm currently on 12 weeks of FMLA "Paternity" leave. Yep... I'll be Mr. Mom for the next few months! My wife took her 12 weeks of FMLA immediately after the birth... she just went back to work end of December. Now it's my turn. I'll actually be splitting it up like this... -Off a month... On for two weeks (just a 4-day trip in that period) -Off a month... On for two weeks (another 4-day) -Off a month... On for a week (a 2 or 4-day trip) -Off 3 weeks for Vacation! (1 week of vacation strategically bid to have 3 weeks off) -Summer! I'm splitting up the time off so I don't "dequal" and end up having to go back to the school house to get another PC (Proficiency Check). We are doing this to prevent our newest addition from having to have childcare for the at least the first year. My leave should put us into summer where my mother-in-law has graciously offered to take care of her. She's a school nurse... so she has the summers off. That means that by the start of next school year... our oldest will be in school thus not needing daycare and that will be when our youngest will most likely go in for 2-3 days a week like we did with our oldest. The summer is when I'll be looking to upgrade... depending on when the upgrade bids come out. Anyway! I'll certainly have my hands full taking care of 3 women and the house! I'm sure it will make me miss flying in the thunderstorms, picking up icing, flying the approach to mins, going missed, going to the alternate, refueling, and heading back to the destination for a reduced rest overnight! ![]() Bob

Congrats! Our goal was to keep our son out of daycare...hopefully for good and so far we've been successful. That's great how it's going to work out. Was XJT "fine" with you doing that to your schedule? I know it's a program that we all can legally take, but just curious as to if you "felt anything" from XJT.

Thanks MM! XJT was great about it. I spoke with my Chief Pilot in IAH and he even directed me as to how to properly apply for FMLA. He even personal dropped one of my trips this week while I was awaiting the "approval" from our FMLA administrators, since we didn't have childcare lined up and I needed to be home. Didn't feel anything "weird" from them... everyone I've dealt with has been great. Of course, it could have to do with the fact that we have TONS of reserve pilots! ![]() Bob

Man I'd love to meet you someday, Bob! You were the first testimonial as to how wonderful XJT are to their employees. Then when I started training, I kept hearing it over and over. I love this company!

That is a great way to do it. It is nice that your company lets you break up your FMLA. When I took my time off it had to be all in one chunk. Once I came back I couldn't take FMLA again without new paper work and a new reason... Enjoy the time off and have fun. |

Whew! First thing that came to mind when I saw "FMLA" was that you were joining some sort of NAMBLA offshoot! Glad to see I was mistaken! Congrats, papa!

Kind of late but Good luck none the less. I know trying to get your schedule to juve with the baby's schedule is a feat in itself!!! Hope you see the positives more than the irritations.
