Default first solo....

ok, lets try this again, last time i posted it the database crashed and i can't find it now

this is from sunday:
well today i didnt' plan to solo him because the wind was a little strong, but it was still good landing practice, really similar to conditions we had yesterday. yesterday his landings were fair at best, he would not have solo'd yesterday. today like i said i was expecting about the same especially after yesterdays flight.

well we go up and do a few landings on runway 26 since the wind was from 290 @12 gusting to 20, they were great, i was thought to myself if he keeps this up he could solo today BUT the wind is too much. well the wind switches to 320 and almost completely dies to 7. Tower tells him to switch runways, he handled that great, didn't ask me like he normally would, gives me another 2 great landings over there and i tell tower we will be full stop. we taxi back in, i say "you ready" he says "yeah i think so"....he was ready, give him the 2 final endorsements he needed in the plane and i hop out, tell him to "give me 3 and come back in"

well he does 3 and then goes for a 4th! i was like OK, fine he is having a good time, when he went for the 5th, i frantically searched for the number for the tower cab to put the brakes on him. tower tells him to land that time and bring it in. Tower congradulated him (he was so nervous on the radios, he wasn't when i was with him though) and then told him they stopped him because i asked them too.

when he got back i congradulated him and i could tell he didn't want to quit, i didn't either on my first solo.

Did you break out the scissors when he landed?

Congrats man, I remember mine well. I was so proud when he gave me 3 greasers on a 2200'x45' runway.

a little easier for him on the 7350x150' runway. runway 35L @ KGFK, was nice and quiet on the radios that day too as UND wasn't flying in full force, it is a challenge to get on the radios when they are going

Good stuff!!!

I still have my old shirt tail, and I think it is a great tradition.

My biggest fear, however, is when I make CFI and have to do some decent artwork on the first shirt tail!!

I can't draw worth a s*** !!

Congrats! It sure is an awesome feeling to see them do that!

Say, UND and Grand Forks Tower encourages us to go up in the tower to "supervise" student pilot initial solos. I'd have to say that it was fun doing that for my students, but the tower guys sure like to mess with the instructors while they're up there, haha! Is that an option for you guys too I’m assuming? (I realize that it’s a little farther walk from Flight Support to the tower cab). It's really a nice view from up there to witness it.
