| Took a while to get around to posting this. My dear boyfriend proposed to me on Thanksgiving night, which was also my birthday. He's a pilot as well, and it happened while flying back from having dinner with his family. We had left KSGF and dropped off his mother at the Warrensburg, MO airport and were enroute to MKC. He asked if I wanted to call up Approach and cancel IFR, so we could circle the Plaza a couple times since the lights had just been turned on that night. (I do Plaza scenic flights so it's not a big deal, but ok, it was a nice evening...) So then it happened. He proposed to me in the A36 while circling over the Plaza. Then he showed his ability to handle distractions by landing at MKC 5 minutes later in a stiff crosswind, no landing or taxi light (both having conveniently gone out while taxiing in Warrensburg) and with me hanging off of him bawling. Well done, Jim! Anyways, here's to a lifetime of cockpit arguments! ![]() Sarah |

| Congratulations on the great news! Taxing at Skyhaven can be a little tricky without lights because it is so dark out there.

| Thanks guys! The date is June 23rd of next year. So yes we went right into planning this deal. Yes Doug, it's the guy from the NYE party. We are being total aviation geeks, and getting married on an airplane...and we're having the reception in a large hangar yet-to-be-determined, it's going to be styled like a WWII/USO hangar dance complete with large swing band (already determined ).cmsu - you are right on that. Those reflective taxiway markers don't exactly work well when there is nothing to reflect. Luckily they went out when we had almost made the runway, and they flickered sporadically enough to let us make it the rest of the way. The plane had just come out of annual/engine overhaul and they'd done some work on the nosegear - it was all a wiring issue. Sarah |

| TheWife - we are most likely going to charter a King Air or PC12. It sounds extravagant, but when you consider that we are not doing a church wedding, due to the plan will also have no wedding party, will have no rehearsal dinner, and our reception site will be very low cost, it's not a big deal! (plus the charter will be for a very short amount of time.) So, we will only have room for 8 most likely. It will just be the two of us, our mothers (they are both widows) the officiant and the photographer most likely. In using a hangar for the reception we can just taxi up to the reception! ![]() I am making some calls today about getting a hangar. Fingers crossed. Luckily there are lots of airports in the metro area with large hangars so I know we'll find something. Starting with MKC first, especially since we can charter right out of there as well. Kristie, I am trying to decide if I want to go 'retro' with my hair and makeup. My dress is floor length and slinky - no pouf - so it makes for ease in getting on and off the plane as well as dancing! I am wearing opera length gloves and a birdcage veil so that will give a retro look, though I'll lose both at the reception. I just did a prelim. design on the invites and such and they have a subtle aviation feel to them as well without being hokey. It's fun doing something different! ![]() Sarah |
