| Ram Air Here I Come! I did two phone interviews with Ram Air Freight in RDU, and they just called and offered me a class date of December 11. It sounds like a really good company to work for. I did some searches here on the JC site and I didn't read too many negatives about them.
If anyone works there or has any information about Ram Air that might be useful, I would greatly appreciate it. From what I know about them, it sounds like a great place to work.

| Re: Ram Air Here I Come! Good deal! One of my fellow instructors left for Ram Air a couple weeks ago. He says he enjoys it. Study the stuff they will send you, and don't let your guard down in training. As long as you can actually fly ok you'll be fine. Good luck!

| Re: Ram Air Here I Come! Thanks for the info and well wishes guys. I am really excited about going there. I plan on doing a lot of studying before I start training. I am also going to get some time in a flight simulator to keep my instrument skills up to par.
Surfbas - I'll see you in class.

| Re: Ram Air Here I Come! My old instructor went to Ram Air. They were kind enough to take him back after Chicago Express tossed him to the street. Sounded like a decent enough place to build some time.

Lloyd's "Checklist For A Successful Duty Day":
1. Make sure that you have plenty of music.
2. Make sure that you have a spit cup.
3. Make sure that you have single dollar bills, and at least $3.00 in quarters.
4. Make sure that you have a blanket (or something to cover up with and take a nap).
5. Make sure that you carry a spare charger for your cell phone.
With those five things, life will be alright!

With those five things, life will be alright! | Thanks for the tips. That's the kind of of info that I need. You don't find tips like that in too many books.

One thing I'm struggling with is I don't have the total time, but I have around 500 multi. So I'm looking for a job that I can build time in.
Do they start you off in the Lance or do you go straight to the twin? How much is pay?
Congrats on the job and good luck in training. |

| Re: Ram Air Here I Come! Yes I definitely need the multi time, and that is one of the reasons that I wanted to work here. It seems like everyone that I have spoken to there is very professional but also laid back. New hires always start out in the Piper Lance, but the average time to upgrade into one of the twins is about two months. That is what they told me during the interview. The pay varies depending on the run that you are doing. $24,000 to $30,000 for the first year is the average. That will be more than I ever made as a flight instructor.
I held two flight instructing jobs before this. One was at an FBO in Glendale, AZ (KGEU). Glendale Aviation is the name of the FBO. I was there for two and a half years. I gained a ton of good experience there. The pay was low, but the people there were very friendly and made me feel appreciated.
After that I took another flight instructing job with Western Michigan University. They promised me a quick upgrade to the multi, and better pay. They didn't deliver on either one of those things. I still got some good experience with winter flying, and flying the Cirrus was awesome!
I am looking forward to working for Ram Air. I will be able to finally add to my 11 hours of multi time, but also get some really good experience flying in all kinds of weather and in different types of planes.
I really enjoyed flight instructing, but it will be nice to fly with MY hands on the controls for a change. I will keep everyone posted on how things go during the training.

| Re: Ram Air Here I Come! Congrats. One of my best friends worked there and started in the Lance and it was going good. He then got offered a 402 run and that’s when things got bad because of maintenance. He said the mechanics were awful and many times the company actually told him to go when they knew something was broken. So much for the PIC being the final authority. The last straw was when they told him to fly a plane with two broken tachs! So he quit and went to the competition in FL. He's back in a single and says it’s running 18mo to upgrade to the multi which stinks. He's been there about 6mo and he's making way more than my FO pay. Good luck and just be careful and be sure to carry plenty of NASA forms...jk |

With those five things, life will be alright! | Don't forget a spare change of clothes, or at least a toothbrush and toothpaste, with some deodorant...just in case you get stuck some place due to fog, mx, whatever...it's come in quite handy for me anyways.
Oh yeah, welcome to the OOTSK!!
