| Newbie | Hello fellow forum-goers! I'm a long time "reader" and first time poster. I'm really impressed with the site and the discussions that go on around here. I'm starting to get really excited as of late that my dream's starting to come true. Here's a little bit about myself for anyone who's interested. I'm 22 years old and live in good ol' Tennessee, USA. I'm currently working at our local airport as a flight instructor part-time, splitting my time between the airport and our state university where I'm finishing up a degree in Economics--yeah, I guess I'm a "glutton for punishment" as I've been told. I'm currently up right on 800TT, with a glorious total of 3 hours of ME (the Apache I was flying went down for the Eternal Annual), flying well-worn old trainers and still having a blast teaching people. I tried the big-name training school/college program and decided the expense and the hassle really wasn't for me. I like the Part 61 environment and getting a non-av degree, so I'm taking things a bit slower/cheaper and doing it this way (nothing against you fast-track guys, just a personal preference). The biggest challenge I've found doing it this way is that it's a lot harder to network with other pilots, get your name out, and just get some good old-fashioned advice. That's why I'm here. I feel like I have a realistic expectation of what life will be like as a 135/low time 121 pilot. My family and my girlfriend know, too, how hard it is and are entirely supportive. I look forward to becoming an active poster and welcome your comments/suggestions! |

| Welcome! I think you'll do well. You've got the right attitude, you're getting a well-rounded education instead of being single-faceted, you're not loading up on debt to try to get somewhere 3 months earlier, it sounds like you have a great support system, the path you're on is a good one for becoming a well rounded pilot, and it sounds like you're enjoying the journey. All good! Finally, you've made a good choice in coming here. Great place to hang, lots of good information available, plenty of good contacts to be made....pull up a chair. ![]()

| Are you my stalker or something? Reading that was almost like dejavu, my Ebay name is AV8R4Life too! I dont like big flight schools/academies, 21, CFII at small FBO + some independant stuff. Last year of business degree at a state school. 1150TT. No multi time yet but once the damn apache comes out of its engine change I'll get my MEI in it. Girlfriend/family is very supportive. FREAKY |
