| So it turns out being from another country does have it's advantages. Started my internship at Motorola today. Didn't do much but get familiar with the features of some new phones they have on beta. The lady said they were hiring me because I spoke Portuguese, which I didn't understand where that would apply until today. It turns out that I'll be testing all the new phone softwares in Portuguese. I got internet access as well so I gotta be careful not to slip into JC or facebook during the workday. What's valuable about this internship is that I always wanted to see what an engineer does, as I'm an engineering major and I don't have much of a clue on what their day-to-day work is like. So far, I can see that the cubicle setting is not for me. ![]() |

| Old Skool | Sounds cool!! Many engineering opportuntities in the DFW area; there's a good chance you'll end up here at some point.

I need a technical degree and mechanical engineering is the most general technical degree I can get. I'd do Physics but the job market for it is not as good as engineering and there's no way in h*ll I'm gonna major in biology or chemistry.

| Senior Member | Wait, wait. You "need" a technical degree? For what purpose?

Aerospace engineer myself, graduated April 2006. Take engineering courses only if you're 100% sure engineering is what you wanna do (in fact, declare it before taking any 300 level or higher courses. 300 = junior level or up).

It's not that bad if you're truly determined or interested in what you're doing. If you want it enough, then you can do it. If not, you maybe able to slip past the first year, but then you will certainly get owned. Btw, I'm not trying to discourage you at all. If it seems like I am, just know that I'm still recovering from the 3hr mech lab I had today and then the midterm right after.

Discourage me? I'm already done, I did my 4 years at Michigan, and got the Aerospace engineering degree. Right now I'm working as a structural engineer earning the big bucks ![]()

| Honestly, I'd much rather major in something like criminal justice or political science, bu that won't get me where I want to be. Plus, my university has a 5 year masters program which I'm thinking about doing. Graduating hs early was somewhat of an advantage as if everything goes as planned, I'll be an attorney with a masters in M.E at the age of 24. |
