| ![]() To celebrate his getting his sport pilot license in the J-3 my father bought a "highlander" tailwheel airplane. The plane is going to be set up in a mild bush setup with oversized mains and tailwheel and have the bluemountain pfd and a radio and transponder (no ifr) It should be arriving 75% completed around christmas and I will be going home to fly most of the 40 hrs or initial solo off for him so it can carry passengers and be certified. with his work schedule it would take too long for him to get the 40 hrs, I will try to do it in two weeks or so. After that we are going to fly it dual to wisconsin to get floats fitted. I am looking forward to it, it will be nice to have access to an airplane when I want so I can stop renting beatup 172's for top dollar and also it will be something fun to fly for when I am home in the northeast area. He is having a hangar built on a small 2k foot grass strip in NH near his house and my wifes parents live at an aviation community with a 5k foot grass strip an hour north so hopefully there can be alot of good times ahead. I will keep you all posted as to the flights and handling and whatnot.

| Nice! It's a blast owning your own plane! I can fly when I want...where I want and not have to worry about anyone's schedule. The price is right as well!

| aspilot, I have thought about that many times. Not like having 50 or so hours tailwheel with over 98% of my landings on a 5000'x150' paved runway, it sure would be nice to land on something interesting or challenging. I have an (ex)stepfather who flies caravans and be1900's and navajos in alaska out of anchorage and bethel (he lives in seward) He also owns a maule and has been trying to get me up there for years to do some bush flying with him. He has many great stories about dropping off hunters on riverbeds and landing around corners and on top of glaciers and you name it. I worked there in kenai fjord for a summer in 1996 but havent been there since.
