Well I've been a frequent visitor here for awhile and I've gotten alot of very helpfull advice from you guys and I've just now gotten around to creating an account. I know everybody's opinion on the big airline training academies But I must confess I went to one... I didnt get any type ratings because of some of the threads I read about that subject and I saved about 20,000.00$! Im currently instructing and flying pipelines so I think it was a wise decision. Anyway enough of all that. I just wanted to introduce myself

Yeah you hit the nail on the head. The training was actually pretty good I cant complain. As far as the type rating goes I know alot of guys that got it and were hired by ExpressJet and American Eagle. Some with as little as 300 TT 25 Multi. But my biggest problem was the management. I could go on all day about that

"As far as the type rating goes I know alot of guys that got it and were hired by ExpressJet and American Eagle. Some with as little as 300 TT 25 Multi" That's sick. "But my biggest problem was the management. I could go on all day about that" Please do. Once in a while we get someone asking about RAA. This would be good info for the search function.

Well for starters let me stress that RAA is a business and to anyone on the payroll The company gets what they want and that is the students money. Plain and simple. They make you sign a contract before you do any training which they recently had to modify because some people were getting wise and taking their money and leaving. Does that tell you anything? Now they want you to take out your loan and give them the money to MANAGE for you...Anyway thats usually the last time you ever see it. I was quoted a price at the beginning for the whole program PPL-Type rating. And the same week I started they raised the rental price of the planes and started charging a fuel surcharge of like 9.00 an hour. Nobody could ever tell me what this was for. So long story short they quote you a given amount of money for everything and then change prices so your sure to run out of money and you can either quit training or take out yet another loan and finish. If you notice on the RAA website they mention how ALL the aircraft have Garmin 430's...Well maybe 5 or 6 airplanes actually have a Garmin 430. Im not complaining a bit but they need to stop bragging about how all the aircraft are so nice when in reallity they are worn out handme downs from UND and ERAU. Half of them still have ND tail numbers. Now about the type rating. It is true that if you pay $6,000.00 for an Airline Transition Course and $18,000.00 for the type rating and be real quiet and dont question anybody about screwing you over with your money the whole time your there. You can get a job flying for a regional with very low hours. I had a friend that got his type rating but he was constantly confronting them about where his money was going and when it came interview time they didnt recommend him to any airlines. He now has a CL65 Type and no flying job.. I dont personally have a problem with anybody that got hired that way I just chose to go the CFI route. If anyone has anymore questions about RAA please ask.

As long as airlines are willing to hire guys with this sort of background, outfits like RAA will keep turning them out. Type rating or not, a guy with 300 hours doesn't belong in a jet. Don't ask the airlines or the FAA, ask the Capts that get to fly with them. Aaron, thanks for the info. Welcome to JC. I'm glad you've decided to gain some experience before moving up the ladder. It's good for you and good for the industry at large.
