Default Fort Worth FNG

Just wanted to leave a short intro. I've been lurking for sometime on the boards here and am ready to join in on the fun.

I separated from the USAF about a year ago as a Captain in the aquisitions world. I was at UPT for a while but, was given my desk job for a slight medical issue that was unwaiverable. I fought tooth and nail to stay, but it wasn't going to happen. My etp letter was denied by the COS and my congressman got the same answer. I have a 2d class flight phys and no issues what-so-ever as far as the FAA is concerned. So I'm still flying using my GI bill bennies. I moved to Ft. Worth six months ago to work for an aerospace company here. It's a desk job that I hate, but it is paying the bills while I work towards my CFI. I'm currently flying out of Denton, as I just wasn't impressed by the local 141 outfit. I'm got ASEL and AMEL with inst. ratings and am currently working on the 141 commercial.

I've read a bit about the USCG Blue 21 program and am currently applying for it, but a more realistic goal is to get the CFI and try to get hired on at the new USAF flight screening program in CO Springs. From there I'd like to do some freight dog time or land a corporate gig. I feel this type of flying will most closely match my career goals. I'm single and plan on staying this way until I'm established in this new career, though I wouldn't call it a new one, as it's been my passion and goal since college. Life throws us curves you know.

Anyhow, if any of you are from the DFW area let me know. I'm usually going out on the weekends for a few social drinks and it would be great to meet some more people in the industry or find some friendst to safety pilot with. All of my contacts and friends are in sandy places right now.

Cheers

Welcome aboard!

Are you flying at USFA in DTO? I instructed there about 2 years or so ago.

Hey TXPilot and Jason,

Yeah, currently flying out of DTO at USFA. It's not a bad place. Could be a little more structured (I did come out of the UPT mindset), but I dig it. Ft. Worth seems a nice place to live as well, if only it weren't so hot all summer. I live near Sundance so if you are ever down this way and the pints on me.

USFA has gone and probably still going through a ton of changes since I was there. From what I hear, it's not even the same place...which is probably a good thing. Be sure to give Heather and Pam a hard time for me.

The Blue 21 Initiative is pretty new, so if you graduated from a school that has 25% minority you'll probably be good to go.

I would love to do CG stuff but as of right now my back won't be able to stand the 17 weeks of hard labor. Maybe by the time I graduate it will be all good, but that's a dream and a half.

Welcome to the boards.

I'm in Arlington...

Welcome to the Forums! There's a pretty decent DFW JetCareers Crew here.

Hey Capt. Bob. I just saw your sig said "wishing I was in Maine". I just recently moved here from Boston. I spent my last 2.5 years in the USAF at Hanscom AFB there. The coldest day of my life was when we landed at Millinocket Maine to refuel. The guy on the unicom said the lines might be frozen. They were, and so was I after standing outside in -35F air temps. That was before the wind chill effect, and you know it was howling. Most times I'm worried about oil temps that are too high; not that day. Cold weather flying. Oh the joys off beating the ice off of the wings while freezing your nutts off on the flight line. Where the hell is the pre-heat cart???
