Default New CFI!!!!

Hey all! I haven't posted in awhile, partly because I've been too busy studying for my inital CFI. (Actually I've been trying to keep the computer off b/c it's too easy to start surfing around when I should be reviewing FARs or something else painful).
Aaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnyway, I took and passed my CFI ride this week. I went with a DE because the CLE FSDO was too busy. It was the same DE I did my PPL and CMEL rides with, so I already felt comfortable with him and knew he would be fair. It took about 3hours of oral, of which .4 was outside the PTS(he was interested in why I switched FBOs, which then developed into a tangent discussion of real world customer service, professionalism etc). Lots of emphasis on documentation, very little on FOI just for the sake of regurgitating all the memorized FOI minutia. He did a lot on scenarios with students and how to acutally use some of that knowledge.
The flight was only 1.4, including some extra time to escape a Pitts driver who kept trying to kill us for a few minutes. Nothing like seeing traffic going vertical thru the skylights of a 182 as you're trying to talk thru steep turns. "I really like these skylights-they help get rid of--holy crap!". Then after demo'ing an emg descent from 5500 to 2000, and going about 5NM west, dude shows up behind us again at our altitude. Strange.
Anyway, it went very well compared to some of the other stories I've heard. Not that it was easy, but I tried to be as organized and prepared as possible, and took people's advice about not rushing into answers, using all my available resources, and being honest about answers I didn't know off the top of my head.
Now the real learning starts... just need to get a student or two!
Andy

Very nice. Interesting that you went with a DE. I did mine with a DE as well, and the RIC FSDO's excuse was that they were too backlogged to commit one of their inspectors to a few hours with me. Based on that and our most recent escapade with the CAE FSDO and our 135 certification (new job), I'd go ahead and say that the FAA is sorely undestaffed nationwide.

Good luck on your ride, FlytotheSky! About the FAA thing- from what all the old timers at the airport were saying, it seems like the FSDO is really understaffed as well. Based on some of the horror stories I've heard, I wasn't too upset to do a DE ride, apart from having to fork over the cash. It was worth it to get done about 8 hours earlier....

Congrats! Just remember- there's nothing scarier than your first solo! No, not *your* first solo.... your first student's solo...
