Congrats, Chris....

And like everyone has echoed, I really hope they don't pull a fast one on you and send you to GoJets. That's been done before. I hope it really is TSA.

Now when did Doug become Michael Knight?

Just an FYI. There was a fellow on here who recently was hired at my company whose interview class consisted of 4-6 furloughed TSA guys with low TT (ie <1000 TT). From their profiles it looked like they got hired with around your same time/multi at TSA.

I don't believe any interviewed successfully here. Not that it means anything, but it might. Who knows. Was it them? Was it their flying background? I dunno. We do have a lot of ex-ACA guys here.

I'm personally glad I had 1500+ PIC and 250+ multi PIC when hired. Contrary to popular belief, I fly <60 hours/month at an airline but did 85+ while instructing. Pretty significant when you've got low time. Not to mention the guys on reserve are lucky to fly 10-15 hours/month here. Might be different at TSA though. Congrats! The airline lifestyle isn't what it's cracked up to be at $24/hr...

Yeah, I know about 5-7 guys who got furloughed at TSA last time, and I'd say 3-4 came out with the "I'm never flying a prop" mentality and became otherwise ornery people.

As for the $24/hr, it's better than the $18/hr flight instruction life

I made more money CFI'ing than I did my first year at a regional...and it was one of the better paying regionals....(no props either, not sure where their attitude would've showed).

Keep in mind you generally get paid for 75 hours/month at a regional, especially in a slow moving company with a lot of bottom attrition like TSA (ie reserve).

While CFI'ing I only made $16/hr but billed 150+ hours/month.

CFIing for myself has been slow. Real slow. I maxed out at 50 hrs/ month one month (probably billed 70ish)...

As for the TSA attrition, they told me (so who knows whether it's true or not), that they've got 480 pilots now and are looking to have 700 by the end of '07, so that'd be nice for the seniority, I'd imagine.

Mgmt told us they were planning on hiring another 150 for the rest of 2006 after their hiring spree.

I think they hired around 30 so far!

Congrats dude! Just take it, and build your time there (unless its go-jets).
I played "airline snob" when I had your times, and all I ended up with was a couple more years of duel given. It all worked out for me because I wanted to live in certain locations, but if you are single and flexible, heck ya take it.

Are they including GoJets in that figure, though? I'd imagine from a management point of view, hiring new guys into GoJets would be a better deal for growth while only hiring enough into TSA to cover attrition. With GoJets whipsawing, I wouldn't imagine much growth potential at TSA.

The two interviewers were a line pilot and the Chief Pilot... I don't think they're including GoJets.

Lol. Airlines are not timebuilders in the sense you are talking about.

Besides, just remember that statement after you've just come off a 15 hour duty day to be greeted with a 8:19 "rest period" for an 8 leg day the next day.

Have fun.
