| Old Skool | I know everyone here is good and checks for TFRs before a flight but thought I'd post this anyways. FAA TO ESTABLISH TFR OVER LOS ANGELES ON TUESDAY AOPA is sending this message to advise pilots in and near Los Angeles, California, that the FAA has issued a notam restricting flight in the area during President Bush's planned visit on Tuesday, October 3. There will be a large 30-nautical-mile-radius temporary flight restriction (TFR) centered on the SMO VOR's 352-degree radial at 3.8 miles, extending up to Flight Level 180. It will be in effect from 4:35 p.m. local until 8:20 p.m. local on Tuesday. Also, there will be multiple smaller 10-nm-radius GA no-fly zones in effect within the larger TFR during that timeframe. See AOPA Online for the full text of the notam along with a graphical depiction ( http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/notams.html#6/2006 ). The affected landing facilities are Santa Monica Municipal (SMO), Los Angeles International (LAX), Van Nuys (VNY), Bob Hope (BUR), Jack Northrop Field/Hawthorne Municipal (HHR), Whiteman (WHP), Compton/Woodley (CPM), Zamperini Field (TOA), El Monte (EMT), Long Beach/Daugherty Field (LGB), Fullerton Municipal (FUL), and Agua Dulce Airpark (L70). Because TFR airspace frequently changes, AOPA strongly encourages pilots to obtain a briefing and CHECK NOTAMS before every flight. TFR violators will be intercepted and forced to land. |
