Default Just venting!

I was set to do my long XC this last Wednesday but it was a no go due to weather. I rescheduled for Tuesday next week but now see that there's a TFR going up for Bush's visit here on that day. DAMMIT!

I feel your pain man. THose tfr's shut everything down in the valley, and the terrain stops yu from going elsewhere. Here is what i did with one of my students during a tfr in ONT....

I went and flew with them at new, different airports towards PSP, APV etc. I filed IFR and repositioned the aircraft with the student on the day of the TFR and had them fly a new solo x-country. I made sure they were well away from the TFR, and that they knew what would happen if they flew into it. It cost the student a bit more, but they learned a bit in the process. A flight from VNY to say POC or SBD is 45 minutes at best, and you could go to PSP, APV and back to SBD and get it done. IT's all up to your instructor of course, but run the idea by him. I haven't looked at the TFR in detail, so you may have to tweak it a bit. You get the idea

dude,

your going to F70 on your x-country? wow, brave instructor. I'm sure you have been up in there before. Santa ana's create some crazy winds up in there, so be careful! On the other hand, go in there and eat (awesome food) and check out the hottie working in there!

I fly out of F70 all of the time and is not that bad as far as winds. What you need to be more concerned about is flying in on the weekends, as it can be quite busy in and around the pattern and is a non towered airport. Be careful and have a great x-country.

Yeah, I heard it gets crazy there on the weekends. Shouldn't be too crazy when I go but as always see and avoid

French Valley can get alittle crazy over the weekend, but generally, it's done fairly safely and most of the pilots i've seen over there actually use their radios. Now, if you go a few miles southwest of F70, then it can get unsafe, there are some crazy pilots flying around in that area and many people (including myself) have had traffic get a little to close for comfort.

That's what I like about FF, ATC can paint a basic pic for you when you arrive in the area and then you can use the CTAF and your eyes to complete your mental TCAS.
