Default Hello from brand new member

Hello all,

RookieFlyer checkin' in to say hi as a newbie to this site. I am fresh out of the gate with a private pilots certificate and only about 60 hours TT. I am finishing a graduate degree in zoology here in Oklahoma and am going to apply to the USCG this coming spring. Don't know if anyone has heard of it, but I applying to a program called Blue 21. It's a program trying to boost numbers of minorities in the Coast Guard aviation corp. I love biology but developed a passion for flying while at OSU for graduate school. Once well into my private pilot training I "ran across" the program on the USCG site one day and immedietly knew I had to apply. So with some more hard work and a little luck next spring I will be able to post a message telling everyone that I am on my way to New London, CT for OCS.

Welcome!

So... what happens when you have a thousand hours under your belt and aren't a "rookie" anymore? Your screen name is gonna sound funny in a few years!

Just messin' with ya... welcome to JC.

Welcome!

One of my friends from high school went to Coastie School and loved it. Interestingly enough, he learned to swim the month before class started.

Nope, not a girl. That's actually my wife "amplexing" a frog at the Sedwick County Zoo in Wichita, KS. I know it's disturbing, but that picture has brought many laughs.

Sorry about the change to my avatar so soon. After I told my wife I had her picture with the frog up there, she thought it would only be fair to replace it with a picture depicting one of my finer moments. I hope all enjoy a good set of "BillyBob" teeth. If anyone reading this has had any experience with military flight aptitude tests, I would sure appreciate some input about how best to study for them. Also, I had PRK surgery done early this spring and was wondering if at any time during a First Class medical or military flight physical the examiners tested for night vision problems. Anyway, thanks.

No prob Max, I can understand the concern. I proudly belong to the Citizen Potawatomie tribe (Native American) of my hometown, Shawnee, OK. It must be all the Irish in me that raises the question, but I am actually on the roll with the Potawatomies.

Good luck with the Coastie training. You might want to find ALCOAST 157/02 which is referred to at http://www.military.com/MilitaryCare...406_01,00.html
, ALCOAST 157/02 has the requirements for those who have had PRK.

Also a word from an old Colonel, don't sign up until you know if you are going to be able to meet the requirements - otherwise you may be riding a boat in the harbor

You know what's funny? I saw a post of yours in another thread and thought, "Man that avatar is really creepy" You look like one of those digitized faces on a video game. I thought about saying something on the other thread, but then I started to think, "What if that's really what he looks like?", so I didn't say anything thinking that maybe I would offend somebody w/ a really f'd up looking face. haha

Glad to hear that the teeth are fake! Phew.
