| This is along the lines of a rant--I know my wife doesn't want to hear it...again. I've been in Korea without my wife for 23 months now and in March 05 I received a follow on assignment back to Elmendorf AFB, AK (Anchorage). I was there for 7 years before I came to Korea. Yesterday, with 34 days left here, I find out that my assignment to AK has been cancelled. Talk about a gut punch--I volunteered for a second year here just for that assignment. I can't tell ya'll how pissed I was--still a little, but getting settled down. Now...I have to wait for another assignment--I put in a request for McChord (Tacoma, WA) or Charleston (Charleston, S.C.). Got notified that Uncle Sugar has no slots to support me at those two locations--getting pissed again. BUT, we can offer you three locations--Beale AFB (CA), Travis AFB (CA), and Tinker AFB (OK). After beating my head on my desk repeatedly....I decided on Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City. I'm really trying to look at the positive aspects of OK City and it probably shouldn't be too bad. There are several CAP units in the area, so I can keep up with that and I'm only three hours from Skymates :-) and I only have a tad over 2 1/2 years left until I can retire. Did I mention I'm closer to Skymates....I know there are schools in the OK City area, but I was going to fly down to do the CFI program anyway from AK, but now I'll be able to do it a little at a time and get the same results without burning up so much leave--will go down on weekends/holidays. Are there any fellow JCers in the OK City area that can hook me up with info about the area--good and bad. I'll be driving from AK to OK at the early part of Oct, so it's just around the corner. By the end of the day, I had calmed down a lot and now I just have to be positive for the wife's sake. She's so good to me and I felt devistated in having to tell her yesterday that we did 2 years apart for nothing. At least we'll be back together...that's the important thing. Thanks for listening...just needed to talk to someone and the JC crowd is good for listening :-) Pac Man |

| You have been in for, what 9 years? I woulda thought you would be well aware that the AF will bone you like that in a hearbeat. It happened to my Dad constantly when I was a kid. Still though, sorry to hear about it. I woulda picked Beale personally. Always liked that base. Tinker is not bad though. Oke City has a lot to do, and the Tornadoes are quite impressive Hey have you ever heard of Colonel Bill Carter in reference to Elmendorf? Last edited by LoadMasterC141; August 29th, 2006 at 09:33. |

| Old Skool | I really liked living in OKC. I would move back if I could. Any you are only a few hours from Dallas (Skymates), if you didnt know . Norman, OK also has some good training (or did a few years ago). |

| Senior Member | yeah Pac, that sounds about right, I'm not surprised at all. Good luck at Tinker, as for my choice, I probably would have gone Travis, my wife would dig Cali, her being Japanese and all . Hell, she wants me to retire there ![]() |
