Default CFI!

Howdy everybody. Just wanted to announce that I passed my initial CFI today! About a 3 hour oral and a 1.6 hour flight. Now on to CFII (this summer) and MEI (this fall).

Rock on CAFF....how about some gouge from your checkride (oral and flight). Look forward to reading. Good luck with the next two.

Thanks Pac Man! I can give you a brief rundown. This was with the Fargo FSDO.

Oral:
Lots of stuff…I’ll probably leave some stuff out, but here were the big subject areas:
-Lots on ADM. Seemed to be a big emphasis area. Be familiar with AC 60-22 and be able to teach it all.
-Weight and balance. I didn’t have a lesson plan for this, so it was kind of shooting from the hip. Not a huge deal, just know WHY stability/performance/stall speed change with CG location.
-Pretty much all the FOI. Special emphasis on learning plateaus.
-Endorsements and pilot limitations. Also incorporated aeronautical experience requirements for private pilots.
-Additional endorsements - flight review (scenario based) and high performance and complex endorsements.
-MELs.
-High altitude operations.
-Spins. Know it all, be able to teach it.
-Taught lesson plan on steep turns.
-Know the special emphasis areas from the private/commercial/cfi PTS. I have made a point to incorporate these items (as appropriate) into my lessons, he was pretty impressed with this.
-Taught prop and gear systems. Have diagrams available, it really helps.

Flight:
-Taught fundamentals of flight on the way to the practice area.
-First maneuver was chandelles.
-Steep turns – critiqued his performance.
-Elevator stall.
-Power off stall.
-Steep spiral.
-Emergency gear extension procedure.
-Eights on pylons.
-Normal landing.
-Short field takeoff.
-Short field landing.

Like I said before, there was probably more, but this is everything I can think of off the top of my head. Hope this helps, if anybody has specific questions, let me know.

Congratulations. Are you going to be working as a CFI before your II/MEI? Also, you should be able to get the add-ons finished up a lot quicker than that if you are current. Are you just saving up money right now?
