Yeah, I used to say I'd never fly in shorts and sandals. Now, I enjoy being able to fly in shorts...not allowed the sandals and I go through our main offices too much to buck the system, but some of our outstationed people who never see anybody push it a little. I know from the next job on I'll have to be clean shaven every day and in a normal uniform, so I'm enjoying it now.

Would you say that even about Flightsafety where you get great training? Oh wait, I just remembered that the run into the six figures now. Nevermind.

The cost of flying up here is nuts, even at the FBOs. They are charging $135hr plus a $10hr fuel surcharge for a newer 172.

So I am moving to Glendale,Az and finishing up my Riddle degree online since its only 6K a year vs 22K on campus. Im going to be flying at AirSafety Flight Academy. I have been looking at this school for 6 months and have visited many times and have gotten as much info as I can. I feel that this is the right program for me. I want to just dive head first and pound out my ratings. But I also want to instruct, the "buy a right seat" thing doesnt appeal to me. None the less Ill be flying SR20's for $129 a hour. I have flown in one many times and I love the airplane. I figue if im spending this kind of money I might as well fly the airplane I want and the 172 is not it. I have 50 hours of 172 time and thats enough for me.

Finding a Apartment was a pain but i found one, getting money is a pain..its a full time job moving and switching you whole life around but in the end i feel it will be worth it.

Wish me luck.
As the previous post stated, you might want to reconsider AirSafety. How are you liking to so far? How far have you gotten in your training? From what I've seen they have a pretty small facility, only 8 airplanes, and only 1 multi trainer. What happens when the 100 hour comes?

Also just flying a cirrus because that is what you want to do is great... if your loaded with money. Some flight schools rent aircraft for $70 an hour. Single engine time is single engine time.

I did my training at Westwind even though GEU was closer to my home. Got through the program on time (10 months) and under budget. Worked as a CFI getting about 60 hours a month until I recently got picked up by a regional. Westwind would often fly over to glendale apt for touch and go's because it's dead there. No one in the pattern other than PanAm and Westwind planes (doesn't sound like they are too busy over there). Very glad with my decision not to attend AirSafety especially after getting to know people in the industry and getting to know about the owner at AirSafety.

I would rather attend PanAm than AirSafety, and that is saying alot!

It's just the Erby Diddle brainwashing. I used to say the exact same thing. Scary, but true. Now that I'm outbased, sandals are coming out!!!!!

But the real question is did you turn off the music while shooting approaches to mins? NOT TO BE ANSWERED HERE!!!!! And no, I've never done this

Those prices don't exist in Phoenix ...

My advice ..skip ALL the "big schools" and find an FBO, set your OWN pace and don't buy into this "bigger is better" BS as you just found out you don't like that mentality anyway so why turn around and go right back into a similiar setting?

At least at Riddle you have federal oversight because it's an accredited university these "big schools" are sometimes just as fly-by-night as Joe's Discount FBO.

Those prices do exist, http://flywsa.com/fleet_information.php

I agree not to just buy into bigger is better, its about the quality they produce. I've been to both types, the bigger schools usually have higher standards than the small ones. Just my experience, I'm sure there are exceptions out there.
