The Phase Check was actually harder than the ride....believe it or not.

Today's profile was: DFW - MEM. Took off from DFW in RVR 6 conditions, climbed out to 17000, then set up for maneuvers.

First came the stall series. Started out with the arrival stall. Did that pretty well, then moved straight into the departure stall. Recovered nicely...took a little longer than I prefered to get `er trimmed out, but gotter done...and we were done with maneuvers.

Vectors to the ILS 36R at MEM. Screamed down to 3000, set up for the approach, flew it nicely, ALMOST landed and a freakin' "FedEx jet" pulled onto the runway.

Went missed.....came back around, did the VOR/DME, went missed - out to the hold....did that, then the GPS for 27.

Flew that okay...left alt just a tad early, got down to MDA, didn't see the lights, went missed AGAIN......back around.....autopilot "failed". Hand-flew the same approach to wheels down - including the nose....when "Eagle Flight 801 - ( say it with me) go around!"

Didn't get the thrust reverseres deployed, so we could do the go around. Just as the wheels came off - DING DING DING DING DING (Master Warning), plane yaws right, I correct - go straight into the V1 cut profile and fly that like a champ.

Came back around, did the same approach again (GPS), hand-flew it this time - single engine....down down down.....landed.....Thrust reversers deployed.......Ahhhhh.

Repositioned the aircraft .....knew what was coming.....Set thrust.....80 knots.......(wait for it)........EVERYTHING goes dark on the PFD, MFD...everything..."Abort, Abort, Abort"....yoke forward....contact ATC....

...and we're DONE!!!

Taxi back in. Do the After Landing, Parking and Terminating checklists....up to the debrief and I hear "Congratulations. You made it through. You pass!!"

Tomorrow is LOFT (Line Oriented Flight Training) in the sim. It was originally supposed to be from 8 pm to Midnight on Sunday....but they changed it to (get this) 4:30 AM .

So...no hangin' with JH and the boys tonight.

Tomorrow though......it's ON!!!

IOE starts Tuesday. No rest for the weary. Haven't been home since March 3rd. FINALLY get to go home next Friday - the 21st. WHEW!!!!

More later!

Peace!

Congrats Stan!

The loft is really not that bad... just remember CRM and you'll do fine.

Congrats, man!

I was hoping to at least start sim training today. Got to FSI and found out that our Sim #1 was cancelled. Still got a sim scheduled tomorrow, but I don't know when they're gonna squeeze that extra sim in later. I was miffed since scheduling didn't even bother to call either my sim partner or me. Livin the dream, I guess.

Hey, congrats on the checkride! Have fun getting up at 3 in the morning. Sheesh, that sux. I don't know about LOFT as we didn't do it in the Saab, but wait until that first IOE flight. That's when the learning begins...

All agree that the PF doesn't TOUCH the altitude pre-select bug. That's grounds for getting your fingers amputated.
On the line, If the PF is handflying his hands are never to reach the FCP, the PNF sets everything. However you will see some capt reach up there once in a while to set the speed or something. But for the most part itshands off. If "george" is flying the FCP is all yours except for the altitude select. The one who takes the radio call for Alt. change, selects the altitude. Which is normally the PNF since he is handling the radios. But sometimes the PF maybe handle the radios if the PNF is making a PA, on comm 2 for some reason, or eating lunch =p. so because the PF took the radio call, he will change the alt.

But yeah, thats exactly what IOE is for. I heard that new-hires how have to do x amount of FAM flights in the jumpseat. That should be helpful. Or negative learning, haha. Since what happens on the line doesnt exactly mimic the sims, ifyou know what i mean.

HA, its livin the Pinnacle nightm...err....dream. Your training schedule when all is said and done is going to look nothing like the sched. you recieved at the end of ground school.

Unfriggin'real! to be honest! I kinda thought nobody was reading until I looked at the "views" number and BrianDeJESUS!!!! I'm seriously humbled!

Ok....L.O.F.T.:
(bare with me...Herreshoff hung with me today by my hotel pool and we killed a (certain number of beers)....well....me more than he...he was the responsible one.. THANKS JH!!!)

Anyhoo...

Our flight was from SAT (San Antonio, TX) to MMMMMMMMAMFRIGGINMYAM....whatever.....MMAS/AGU (Aguascalientes, Mexico)...like I'll ever go there in the CRJ...but, it gets me qualified for MX flying.

The Capt. that I did LOFT with took the first leg which gave me time to "hone" my PNF skills = i.e., work the radios (biotch!! ).

Pretty good flight. "Real" time with an extraordinary tail wind ala our instructor.

30 minute break, then it was my turn.

Flight plan was from AGU to SAT.....HOWEVER...just abeam MMMY/MTY (Monterrey, Mexico) we had a DC Bus caution...meaning.. we had NO means of fighting an on-board/engine fire should that occur= land IMMEDIATELY at the nearest suitable airport.

So....off we went to MMMY/MTY.

Pretty standard stuff...but we had to keep in mind the screwey Mexican Airspace/Speed limitations.

"At or below 3000' AGL within 10 NM of any airport.......200 KTS
At or below 10,000 MSL within Mexico Airspace...........250 KTS
At or below 10,000 AGL within 30NM of any airport......250 KTS"

(same thing for takeoff, but I failed to mention that....I blame beer)

Shot the ILS into MMMY/MTY, at about 300 AGL, went visual...cut off the Autopilot around 150 AGL.....bounced the F*** out of the landing and came to a complete stop.

Had an approximate 20 minute debrief and.......ground/sim training was officially....sigh....OVER!!!

I have tomorrrow off, then Tuesday, I fly the real deal with real PAX. Cannot WAIT!

Stever/Kellwolf = hang in there bro! You'll get your sim time in. I'm rootin' for you!!

Everybody = THANK YOU for the congrats!!! I greatly appreciate it! I'll fill ya'll in when I fly the real plane. Thanks for reading!!

I'm not done yet!

PEACE
R2F
