. My favorite so far has to be either La Romana, DR (we stay at a massive golf resort that apparently regularly costs $600/night) or the Barbados Hilton. And St. Kitts was pretty nice, and allegedly (as an ominous sign at the hotel indicates) the island is overrun by monkeys. But then again, I haven't yet overnighted in Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, St Croix, Antigua, or Canouan, which are supposed to be decent. Congrats on finishing up--get crew scheduling on speed dial asap! I'm headed to Miami in june, and hopefully will be joining you in Dallas before the end of the year.

| Old Skool | The monkeys are a blast at SKB! I know a captain who brought one home in his flight bag. Best overnights were SDQ and STX when I was there. SDQ is an all inclusive resort (includes beer!) and STX is the Caravelle, which is the nicest little hotel in the caribbean. Be sure and go next door to Lizards - a great roof top bar/bistro. La Romana was a standup when I went there, not enought time to enjoy Casa de Campo. I miss the SJU overnights - they were great!

"There's a monkey in that bag." "What?" "I brought a monkey home." "..." "Open it." The bag moves. Oh and congrats on your training guys (you know who you are). Love the thread!

Unfortunately, we have few overnights longer than 10-11 hours anymore, which is tragic considering where we're staying. Up in Miami there's a couple of 18-hr ones left, but down here the only longer ones are at the day-VFR stations like Nevis and Canouan.

| Old Skool | He should still be there. He was #1 in seniority at Executive when I was there. Eric F. Union rep. Ask him about it!

| Old Skool | But....but....it's so CHEAP living in my parents' house. ![]() Checkride is scheduled for May 8th or 9th assuming I don't get any other sims cancelled. Sim one was pretty much what I expected. Normal checklists and flows, takeoffs, climbs, stalls, descents, multiple ILS approaches to landings, after landing check, switch pilots, do it all again in the other seat, then do the shutdown flow, exit and terminating checklists. All in all a good learning experience that filled in a lot of CRM gaps. Sim 2 was a different story. We once again did the safety check, flight deck inspection, before start flows and checks, cleared to start flow, after start flow and checks, pushback, taxi flow and checks, etc etc. Threw in some abnormal starts (hot start, hung start, no light off, no starter cutout) then did a normal t/o and climb. Get up to 10K and do the stall profiles. Reposition to FL410 and see how squirrely it is, especially with turbulence. Down to FL350 for unusual attitudes and some yaw damper stuff, and then the fun begin.... I broke the sim. Yeah, you read that right. The instructor wanted to demo what the yaw damper did. So, he told me to stomp on the rudder. I did. CRJ went into an inverted spin, instructor almost came out of his chair, and books hit the floor. Took 20 min to reset, then we picked up. After all that, we did a mach tuck demo (never saw tuck, but I did see mach 0.998). Hand flew the ILS 27 into MEM, go around, then repositioned for the NDB 35 in Pensacola. Landed and switched seats. Did the whole thing again and tacked on the after landing flow and check, shutdown flow and check, and terminating check. Sim 3 on Friday night covering unpressurized takeoffs and landings as well as cold weather ops.

| IOE Day 1 Got to the crew room about an hour before my show time....so.....two hours early. Got my Jepp revisions done ..and waited on the Captain. He got there right on time, briefed me, and we were off to the plane. He showed me the first preflight walk-around, then up into the cockpit. He explained that the first leg would be his so as to let me get my head in the game. Not a bad idea, to be honest. The PNF is HOPPING like a one-legged man in an a** kicking contest, but that's all good with me. I didn't get much of that in the sim, so I was glad to be getting REAL world experience. He flew to TUL and back to DFW, then it was my turn. The thing flies MUCH easier than the sim!! Funny how easy it is when........STUFF AIN'T FAILIN' ON YOU LEFT AND RIGHT....like in the sim!!! ![]() First landing wasn't bad. JT's right....the real thing is SOOOO much easier than the simulator. MUCH! Second landing was a tad left of center, but otherwise....not too shabby either. Nose came down a little harder than I wanted it to, but Capt. said "nice job!" Our plane to DSM had a Mach Trim failure, so we had to switch planes causing a 45 minute delay....which turned out to be a blessing in disquise because had we arrived in DSM on time, we would have been SMACK in the middle of those heavy Thunderboomers that passed through the North Central states. As it was, as we passe dover MCI (HOWDY sbe!! ) last night, the storms were moving north east, but as luck would have it, a level 5 was just passing over DSM so we were delayed yet again. It passed in time for us to shoot an approach before another formed. Got repremanded by the Captain when he asked me to sequence the approach. It was so turbulent that I kept missing the button. After landing and shut down, he apologized. I told him that I would have done the same thing and it's all business...nothing personal. Today, we were up at 4:30 a.m. for a 5:45 a.m. show....off at 6:45 a.m. My leg. Got that bad mo fo up to FL400 today!!!! Pretty cool up there, if ya ask me. Landed in DFW. Originally assigned 36L, we were at about 1000' agl on final when tower asked us to switch to 36R....my first side-step.Actually went VERY well with a REALLY nice landing....with a crosswind! Captain actually complimented me in the crew room in front of some of my cronies.....so, I guess I made up for the biff in the storm.... I hope. ![]() He flew to LBB - quick turn, then my leg back to DFW. He had me hand-fly the thing all the way to FL240 so that I could get the feel for it. He suggested that any time I was on a vectored departure, I do just that to stay fresh. Think I'll heed that advice! All-in-all, I give it a hearty THUMBS UP! I had a blast!!!!! The Captain was a great guy. Made it really enjoyable. He really loves his job. I fly with him again tomorrow and Thursday, then it's HOME!!!!!!!!!!!! More later! R2F
