Default Prototype update ...

Well my first guitar is shaping up pretty nicely. Here's the latest pics, if anyone cares; and, the idea here is that I get good enough to start building/seeling these as a side business.

I'm taking orders now (half kidding) and anyone I know from JC that wants one I'll build at cost (not kidding).

For anyone who wants the detailed specs they are as follows:

- Custom designed, by me - this model/design I call the "Kate" (anyone makes a wise@$$ remark about that and I'll prove I'm a ninja.)
- 24 1/4" Scale length (shorter than a Gibson, allows lower action and less pressure to fret a note/chord).
- I'm trying to avoid exoctic and endangered woods and use American hardwoods so I'm using Poplar for the body and neck, Red Oak fingerboard (this can be changed to a mroe tradition fingerboard wood but).
- The neck will be fitted with a two-way truss rod and two, carbon fiber re-enforcing strips.
- Medium jumbo frets and a 14" fretboad radius.
- I'm planing Grover tuners, and a Schaler tune-o-matic bridge with tail piece.
-The pickups will be two humbuckers (to help mute the brightness of the short scale length). I'm learning to wrap my own pickups so they'll be scatter wound and potted in wax.
- The headstock is a custom design by me as well.

Great job so far. How much for someone you don't know?

Looks great, I'll take one in a dark cherry sunburst. Have you thought about finishes yet? Thanks for keeping us up to date on this. I'm anxious to here it some day. Maybe you could post a sound byte when it's done.

Well this first on will be painted but the rest will be stained. It really will depend on what someone wants. Mine will be a sunburst of somekind probably (once I figure out how to do it).

Oh yeah I also forgot, it will be a zero-fret design.

Looking at that area where the pick-ups are going to go, it looks like you are gearing it up for Hummbuckers. Yeah? If not what are you putting in it ? Looks amazing by the way, congrads

Schweet! That headstock has be spinning! How are the tuners going to fit onto it? And what prompted the red oak fingerboard? I've seen lots of maple, but never oak.

And when is the first acoustic '602' coming out? Build it with a AAA spruce top, solid rosewood sides and back, and bracing that makes it sing like an angel, and I'll be your first customer!

Awesome!

I was considering making a guitar too, but since i have no clue about the equipment for it, i kinda threw that out the window.

Been thinking about making a poker table though!

Looks sweet! Definately keep me in the loop once you get the 1st prototype done. I'm interested to hear how it sounds! Any idea what your costs will be to build it? Never really priced out all the components myself. Good luck with finishing that up!!

The nicest part about putting a guitar together from scratch or parts is it will sound just how you like it and fit your playing style. My MexiStrat was totally stripped and put back together and it sounds WAY better than the American and I'm willing to take it out and gig with it.

Keep us posted on the project.
