Coldest this winter was -8F with a wind chill of -36F. We have "Frozen" 2 airplanes so far this winter that sat overnight. In that weather it takes 10 minutes to dress and another 10 minutes to undress, so if the planes are less than 20 minutes apart you are better off staying out side, but out of the wind, so you dont sweat too much.

Get your self a good hat, scarf, ski goggles, gloves and boots and you will be fine with a bunch of layers elsewere. Remember you get what you pay for, dont go to wally world for those items. At our station on the cold days, the only requirement for the ramp uniform is warm. None of this black or dark bule pants with a Comair jacket. Give me my tan Carhartt insulated overalls anyday over trying to look official.

Today it hit 44 with some killer wind and rain. It is going to snap back to very cold tomorrow.

Congrats on the job! I know we are in desparate need of folks out at DEN. When I was commuting home the other night from ORD, a girl was coming out from ORD to work this week on the ramp all expenses paid! We seriously need some good folks out there!

The woman I interviewed w/ said that they love to hire pilots off the ramp. So now all I need to do is sell my soul for a few more hours of flight time and then I'm on easy street!!

They hired a bunch, but I wouldn't be to optimistic about their work skills. It seems like they just hired everyone they interviewed. Some of the people in BST are getting 30% on some of the tests (open note).

Yikes! Those are some low scores! You will probably run into Dustin and Kyle out there, both are good guys so you can count on them to help you out and get the job done.

I was wondering where Dustin went... Dave is out there too huh?

I might be out there soon if the wind doesn't calm down so I can make a buck this week!

Dave is out there too? I hadn't heard where he ran off to recently. Looks like the next will be good flying for you! Hopefully we don't get those crazy winds. I want to ride my bike without feeling like I'm about to get blown over!

I think Kyle might have done my training this week.

Hey Guys!

Another ramper here, I was hired on with Continental with 400 hours TT and No Multi! Going to do Multi-Engine Training in April. So I'm another one of the Wing-Walk/Push-Back Qualified guys running around the ramp. Coming straight out of the military, the biggest problem I'm running into is dealing with co-workers that have a poor work ethic. Lazy! Anybody else having this problem at there station?

I work at Chicago Midway airport and we service a variety of carriers. Not just our own mainline, Continental but also American, Frontier and ExpressJet. My favorite are XJT (CoEx) ERJ's and American Eagle CRJ's. Also handle MD-80's, B-737's, and Airbus. It's always cool to hang out with some of the flight crews at work.

Keep up the good work! Unfortunately the problem isn't confined to MDW, I see it all the over at ORD and other stations. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of good workers out there, but there are some suuuper lazy ones too!

Thanks for the hard work!

The lazy work ethic isn't just confined to the ramp, either. It spreads to the pilots, flight attendants, gate agents... you name it. It really bothers me when it's a pilot or F/A that is being a lazy bum.

Aaron, were you working that day at MDW when it was -6F? I flew in that day from CLE and the ramp crew had to take buckets of hot water to unfreeze the towbar linkages so we could push. We were like "hurry guys, we are worried it might freeze back!" Do you live near MDW? I live about 20 minutes away in Chicago. Used to work the same area of C gates when it was the OLD terminal!

Eh, the laziness extends all the way out to Rockford at UPS. Then again I work the lazy man's perfect job of de-ice. Get paid 4.5 hours, work 30 minutes.
