| Old Skool | Well, I finally wrapped up training at Xjet today. IOE consisted of a 2 day from the 22-23 (IAH-DAL-IAH-VPS-IAH-JAN-IAH) and a 4 day from the 26-29 (IAH-TYS-EWR-LIT-EWR-STL-IAH-MKE-IAH). Flying around New York and into Newark wasn't as bad as I expcted. The frequency congestion was under control and the controllers seemed to line everyone up very well for the approach (although they did change the approach on us 3 times within 30NM of the airport at one point 22R, 22L, then back to 22R). In fact, the arrivals into Houston seemed more challenging than Newark. We didn't make it to our 3rd hub, cleveland on IOE but we did get some exposure to winter ops, which was nice. We had to be de-iced in Litte Rock due to overnight frost build up. Both captains I've flown with so far have been great, they say my progress has been good although my landings are still a work in progress. The ERJ does like to weathervane, we took off with a 15-20 knot left crosswind in newark and I felt like I was in a 182 again (rt rudder, rt rudder, rt rudder). Overall, I've had a great time in Xjet's training program. It was challenging and rewarding. Of course, I still learn a great deal every time I step into the ERJ, but I try to make an improvement in my airmanship on every flight. The sites are awesome....seeing the St. Louis Gateway Arch from FL 350, DC from 370, flying right over the BOSWASH megalopolis, the appalachians, the mississippi, the great lakes, all great fun. Still, there's a lot of hard work involved in this job. The 25 minute turns can get pretty intense with the walkaround, wt and balance, takeoff performance data, fms work, etc etc. Many thanks to Doug, Kristie, and everyone else who contributes to jetcareers for helping me get here! |

| Nice to finally put a face with the name. I met up with you just past security on your first day of ioe. Glad they got it done quickly, now lose the hat. Have fun. Jim |

| Old Skool | Haha, yeah I heard ahead of time that my first IOE capt. liked to wear the hat so I figured I better bring mine. My 2nd capt. told me that it doesn't matter if you just leave it home, so that's where it's gonna stay haha. |

| Old Skool | And likewise, nice to meet you too. Now if I can just perfect the art of not setting off the metal detector. Apparantly it was my shoes (salesman told me they were airport friendly, but apparantly not). I just take them off all the time now. I also need to find a way to avoid carrying spare change. I don't know what makes me look like a bigger geek, the hat or the giant trench coat haha. On the other hand, I was sure glad I had that trench coat in newark..... |
