| Are you calling Houston a black hole?! (Location of XJET training center) Can anyone suggest any good spots in Houston to eat, hang out etc?? I'm headed down there in 2 weeks, I imagine I'll be spending 99% of my time in the center and in my hotel studying but I've heard there are lot's of good, affordable places to eat around. I'm exited! ![]() |

| Moderator | [ QUOTE ] Seems to be a direct correalation between being a regular on Jetcareers and eventually getting hired by ExpressJet! [/ QUOTE ] I was just wondering the same thing. I hadn't seen Chicaga around in some time. As much as I like JC, I got to say that if my choices are getting hired by Xjet and regularity on JC, I am choosing the first option. No offense Doug ![]() |

| Climb to altitude, and shut down one engine - that is how you extend your range. |

| If you bid right you can end up like that. With one week off, I bet he got a couple of days at the end of this month plus a couple of days at the beginning of next month. You can get creative with the days off scenario. |

| Old Skool | I got screwed on vacation as an XJT new hire. Due to the time I get off probabtion, I don't get vacation until 2006. I'm hoping NOT to be throwing bags or checking people in by then. As far as "blackhole," there's no internet at the hotel. Well, dial-up, but you better have a local number. Oh, and if you want to call that local number they'll need a credit card "just in case." Food: Well, if you've got access to a car, the sky's the limit. Russ is the man to talk to about food in IAH. If you're stuck at the hotel, tough luck. Good Eats (hotel restaurant) will go straight through you, but there is Kettle across the street that's fairly cheap. There's a Taco Bell and Jack in the Box about 10 minute walk from there. Or, you can take the hotel shuttle to the mall, RUN across the street, and there is a brand new Hooters (with nice scenery), Chilis, and a couple of other restaurants. As far as food at the center, Brisket Bob's is good if you're not from Memphis, Kansas City or other BBQ capitals of the world. Rosa's Mexican is okay if you can take spicy food. Hartz Chicken.....well, after our class got sick twice on it, we stayed away from it. CiCi's Pizza is generally good, and if you're lucky you'll get Chic-fil-A. |

| Old Skool | One of my friend's girlfriend works at Hooters. He's recently become the most popular person I know. I mean how do you beat "MY GIRLFRIEND WORKS AT HOOTERS!" |

This is a great town, but hell without wheels. Pappadeaux has great seafood, and a location inside Terminal E. Venturing out a little bit, Pappasitos and Mama Ninfa's are great stops for Mexican food. Goode Co has a few locations around town and is generally recognized as a barbecue institution around here. Marble Slab Creamery is a national chain, but started in Houston and is a great ice cream stop. If you stop by the grocery, get a pint of Blue Bell ice cream ... the best on the planet. Despite the name, New York Pizzeria is a local place with good thin-crust pizzas with a wide variety of toppings. On a budget, Chacho's is great for Mexican food ... more than you can possibly eat for less than $10. My fast food faves are Chick-Fil-A, Jack in the Box, and Taco Cabana. Also try Taqueria Arandas for affordable Mexican. There are zillions of hole-in-the-wall Mexican places around ... if you're feeling adventurous, try your luck. |

At least I was awarded vacation for May 23-29th! I'm gonna coordinate the master vacation plan and head to Europe for two weeks! |

| Old Skool | I'm not gone! But hey, there's no internet access provided by the company for us at IAH unless we have our own laptops (and unfortunately, I don't). The computers in the training center can only access continental company websites. The only reason I'm able to type this is because I ventured out into downtown houston, found a public library, got a card and logged on. I'm almost done! I'm finished with all six full motion sim sessions and have my PC tonight at 8PM-3AM. Then I have a LOFT session on friday (CRM and CAT II ILS training) and my FAM flight (first time I actually get to touch an ERJ, woohoo) sometime next week in Midland. The training is tough, but the instructors are top notch, seasoned guys with tons of extremely colorful stories. I passed my systems written with a 98, the oral was a breeze, but the FTD's and sim sessions were very challenging. Luckily I managed to get through without having to retrain any sessions (although I was sure my instructor was going to make me after some of the screw-ups I pulled). At any rate, things are good at XJT and I should be back to my old posting habits in a few weeks. I might even look into buying a laptop, but after that recent report about their "side-effects" I'm not sure. As long as you keep it on a desk...... |
