Default XJT Traininng Progress report

I just finished week 3 of training at Express jet, so far so good. Week 1 was basic indoc, 50 question test at the end covering alternate mins, company policies, rest periods, etc. Everyone in our class of 31 passed (85% or better required). I've had a full week of systems and 1 week of systems and FTD's mixed. The systems on the ERJ seem straightforward for the most part, but there are a lot of them, loads of aconyms to remember, but our instructor is friendly and very knowledgeable. Our systems test is this thursday and the studying is already getting intense, however, we can't overlook the two upcomoing FTD's next week.

The FTD's are a bit challenging, especially the Flight Guidance Control Panel (Flight Director/Autopilot). FTD 1 went smooth but FTD 2 was tougher. Me and my sim partner made some bad mistakes, but the instructor said he let us make them so we'd learn from them.

I'm looking forward to getting in the full motion sims; hopefully I will be able to adapt quickly (not much time for practice). My classmates are all great and this seems like a great place to be. I've still never touched an ERJ but that should come soon. The holiday inn is feeling like home, but thanksgiving is right around the corner and we get a full week off. Unfortunately, my oral is on the first day back from turkey day. I'll be sure and bring my books home....

That's all for now, sorry for the rambling! Let me know if any you guys behind me on the seniority list have any questions. I'll answer them as best I can, but my net access is limited to classmates' laptops since I have none of my own.

Sorry I never got breathing room to hook up while I was down there (that goes out to you, too Russ). Airport agent training was more intense at XJT than SWA. The computer system isn't the most intuitive or user friendly set up I've encountered. Add in all the city codes (domestic AND int'l) thrown at us, and it was tougher than I expected. We actually lost one person the first week, and two more got the news at graduation yesterday that they STILL haven't passed their background checks. But, I passed, and I'm back in MEM for two weeks of on the job training at the ticket counter and gate. After that, I'm turned loose on my own and could be ramp, gate or counter. At least now I can get back to working on flight ratings.....

Hey, congrats on making it through kell. I had no net access and I couldn't remember your number (still surprised about the no internet deal).

I had my systems test yesterday, passed with a 98. FTD 5 coming up on monday. First time we get to do any handflying other than the FTD takeoffs. Things are going great so far, and most people in my class are doing fine. Think we only had one guy in our class of 31 who didn't pass the written. The next two weeks are probably going are going to be crunch time, with the oral, then a week of level D sims followed by the PC.

I'm getting waaaay too comfortable with that holiday inn, although I decided to drive home this weekend to check up on things.

Yeah, I was hanging out with a guy that had his oral the first week I was there. Poor guy looked like he hadn't slept in weeks. 'Course after he passed it was straight to the liquor store (the shuttle will take you if you're REALLY nice).

If/when I wind up back there for the age long pilot training, I am FOR SURE driving from Memphis to Houston. I would go insane being there for that long without a car.

[/ QUOTE ]As a Houston resident, I would ABSOLUTELY advocate having a car for training. There is a great deal to do within a 15 minute drive of the hotel, but it is NOT a pedestrian-friendly area, and almost nothing is walkable. This is a great city, but it is a city best experienced with an automobile.

Plus if you get really stir-crazy one Saturday you can take the day and drive down to NASA or Galveston and blow off some steam.
