| I had my MEL checkride today and successfully passed. I cant tell you how frickin nervous I was leading up to the time of the ride. Study and study and study, then I'd try to study some more but it finally got to the point where I felt confident in my knowlege for the oral and for the procedures. For the oral we talked about the "normal" stuff with a strong focus on Vmc. I had a little problem with the Vmc because the DE kind of gave me a curve ball by asking me about the factors and their affects the opposite of how I studied. This shouldn't have made a big difference but I was able to get it screwed up. ![]() Then we went flying. I was much more composed for the checkride than I was for the phasecheck ride that preceeded this. The DE had me do a normal TO and then a normal landing, and then short field TO and landing and they were quite possible the best I have ever done. On a side note, we had to hold short of the active for about 10 minutes. That dont seem all that long but when you're sitting there watching all these planes land you tend to get little ancy. The biggest thing I mishandled was the SE landing. The DE said I should have held altitude more than I did in the case that if the gear dont go down, I have plenty of altitude if I decide to go-around. All in all I feel it went good, but wish I did better on parts. But I finally have the MEL rating and am looking forward to what comes next. |

| Old Skool | [ QUOTE ] How's God's country??? [/ QUOTE ] Not bad. I'll be spending more time in IAH than MEM over the next month, though. If my plans work out like they should (unlike my last sixty plans), I should be able to stay in MEM for quite a while. Downside is I might have to (PLEASE don't kill me Lloyd) swallow my pride and instruct for Douglas....... |
