| Well I quit my job yesterday. Not to go fly mind you, quit for another corporate type desk flying position. Specifically, left the graphic design position at my engineering firm for a marketing coordinator position at an architecture firm a lot closer to home. Yay, no more putting 30,000 miles per year on the car. Pay is better, opportunity is better. Bad news? After I quit yesterday my boss freaked out and started DUMPING stuff on me to do these coming two weeks, and now I have to go to Houston Thurs-Fri and miss a huge family dinner Thursday evening. She tried also to send me the entire workweek next week, my last 5 days - and I flat out said NO. What are they going to do, fire me? I could start my new position tomorrow if'n I wanted. Oh yeah, flying. I've got my commercial single with just shy of 300 hours. I'm about halfway through my CFI and get to do my spin endorsement tomorrow. YAHOO!!! Hope to finish sometime late next month and then get the CFII. I'll be teaching evenings/weekends. Kudos to jc.com for helping me get here! I started lurking sometime in late 1999 or early 2000 when the bug hit me again - this site absolutely kept me going while I scraped and saved for my private certificate which I started in May 02. That's about it. I'm newly single after 4 years with b/f. Big adjustment but I'm now kinda enjoying the 'me' time. Sarah |

I just want to have my own ranchhouse, with a garage in front and a hangar in back, with my own horses and other house pets, a good couple of acres, an adjoining runway to the hangar, and a vintage A-1 Skyraider or T-28 or A-26 Invader (round motor heaven) that I can fly around........without screaming babies that I have to change and leave food and water out for, without minivans in the driveway or any other vehicle that has a car seat and "baby on board " signs, without kids I have to actually pay attention to, and without toys all over the house that I trip over. Michelle, in short, you'd drive me up a wall! |

| Old Skool | [ QUOTE ] Michelle, do you enjoy torturing me with the kid talk and stuff? [/ QUOTE ] YES. Wanna talk about breastfeeding and episiotmies and poop? Come on, it's not like you haven't got in your fair share of teasing me. You'd whine and cry more than the kids would Fine with me if you don't want kids though, shouldn't have em if you don't want em. I get to feel a little human roll around in my uterus all day and that to me is cooler than any other job. |

| Senior Member | It's been a while since I have posted, but I thought I would fill you guys in. I got my around the end of May with about 350 hours, followed up with my CFII on Jul 1, and will get my MEI next week. I was hired by the flight school that I did most of my training with, and four short months later, I am now flying between 30 and 40 hours a week, and will have 800 hours and 85 multi by the end of the week. Now that next step does not seem as far off as it did back in late 2001 when I started my training and found this website. It is amazing to see all of the other posters in here that where student pilots like me back then that are now starting aviation careers. |

[/ QUOTE ] Now now......you enjoy the attention I give you....you just don't want to admit it to yourself. [/ QUOTE ] I wouldn't necessarily say it's toughness or lack thereof...it's more like I lack the patience. Kudos to parents that enjoy this lifestyle and are good at it; we need kids to be raised right in this country since they're our future. That being said (which I truly believe), enough kind words from me! I don't want to deal with poop, or anything else close to it. I don't even like changing a cat's litterbox if I don't have to. You're right about me whining and crying.....from the torture!!!!! At least a kitten or foal grow up pretty quick, and only requires a minimum amount of time with 100% care and feeding. The closest I've been to babies was having delivered one in Texas while working for the forestry fire department when I was going through AF pilot training. And THAT was only because we happened to arrive on-scene to back-up the ambulance crew, but the ambulance was 45 minutes late, coming from another call. The woman at the ranch house couldn't hold it in any longer no matter how much I pleaded for her to do so, so my partner and I had to do the job. Ewwwwwwwwww!!!! There was stuff everywhere, and the kid came out with it's feet first (bad-bad, which we rapidly sped the delivery) and we had to jump-start the kid. Left the cord connected for the paramedic crew to do whatever they needed to do with (we were firefighters only, not medics, so we had only basic med supplies...we only respond as manpower support for the ambulance). After the kid came out, all this other stuff began leaking out, and it was Ewwwww too. I still remember the woman like it was yesterday.....and she was screaming and mad-like: Me: Ma'am, we're just going to make you comfortable here....there doesn't appear to be any time between contractions, but I need you to do me a favor and try and hold it in, since the ambulance will be here shortly (another 30 minutes...but what's a little white lie?) Mad Woman: What the hell do you mean hold it in!!!!!!!! It's coming NOW. And why am I waiting for the ambulance????? Who the hell are you guys then!!!!!!???????? Me: Ma'am, we're firemen, we're just waiting on the ambulance since it has the medics onboard, OK? Mad Woman: Firemen!!!!!! What the hell are you guys doing here? Does my house look like it's on fire!!!!!!!! I need paramedics! Not firemen!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! (you'd think she was in some kind of pain or something.. ) (I didn't have time to explain the dispatching system and standard operating procedures to this crazed woman, so I just took the abuse and monitored her condition.) Anyhow, out came a little baby girl. We gladly handed the scene over to the medics when they arrived, and that's the closest I've been, and ever wish to be, to infants. So there. | Been flying a little and trying to work on my PPL. Work has me traveling tons, so I'm riding in planes rather than flying them... Decided that I'm going to quite the software engineering / architect job in March, take a risk and head to either Flight Safety or ATP and really focus on it. Luckily I've got support for the SO. Come March, no office, no desk, no recycled crappy air and no fluorescent lights. I've decided to pursue a lifelong dream. Can't depart the earth without giving it a go... |

| As I read these posts, my 2 and 5 year old "ankle bitters" are on the floor behind me coloring. I agree with the other posts. Don't have kids unless you are ready for them and want them. Lots of work but lots of fun too. With that said, I'm sending out resumes, trying to line up interviews for a real job. 1900 + TT. 1200 + dual given. Instructing has been great, but I need to move on. Not looking forward to the 1st year pay though. |

| Well, switched companies to an airport that actually has traffic and whose owner actually cares a little more about the business. Still don't have many students, but that may be changing shortly. I'm getting a lot of encouragement from the local notables. I'm trying to teach myself HTML during the down times (ie all day), and when I have a website, I'm going to be a Jetcareers sponsor and advertise with all my RICHES!!! That's right, I'll be RICH!! (/goofiness). Anyway, I'm told by everyone else who's ever worked here that in 2 months I'll be practically turning students away, so life's looking much better than it did 2 weeks ago. |
