| I finally upgraded my bike to a nice machine and a Deltoid and I often ride up at Cartersville or on the Silver Comet. Any other bicyclists in the ATL area want to join up for a few rides. We don't go strong but just cruise for 30-50 miles and then have a few beers afterward.

| Mmmmm, beer. I just started riding again after a few years off. Just got the old Pinarello dusted off last week in fact.. I used to ride in Cherokee / Forsyth quite a bit. Now just usually go to Columns drive or Riverside in Roswell. I probably won't be up to 40-50 for another few weeks, but could go for 30 at the Comet. Cartersville sound interesting, what's your route up there ? I'm trying to get the CFI knocked out, so don't know how much time I'll have for the time being, but should be good to go after I get that ticket in a couple weeks ! pm me your details, maybe we can get a ride together. |

The Cartersville rides start at the Bud plant with the short ride a 27mile one and you can do variations to add 12 to that route. The next marked route is about 45 miles and then it jumps into the 60s and finally around 80. I have done the 27 and 27+ a number of times. the idea for me is to see something besides two yellow stripes in the center of the road (head down, in the saddle and pumping like hell.. not my idea of a great fun time). I will check in with you for the next rides. There is a century coming up in September.. the backwoods ride that begins at the Bud plant. http://hugeelvis.tripod.com/

| What sort of speed are we talking about here? I live in Roswell and could do 30 miles...but not at 20! I'm a little fat for that right now! |

The CFI crash course has me busy for the next two weekends, but I'd be in for something the weekend of 8/9. There's some nice riding up in Cherokee County. I call it the New Hope/Birmingham/Freemanville loop, but don't have a map link. One of my favorites. Start in Alpharetta or Roswell. You might also like the Silk Sheets ride, was nice last time I did that one. The century down at Griffin, GA was a nice ride that was well supported and not too extreme terrain. Damn, I'm reminiscing now about all the good rides I've done around here, gotta get back in shape ! Looking forward to maybe hitting the road with you guys.

I can only speak for myself, but I'm up for any pace. 20 avg over rollies is going to be excessively brisk for me, too. 16-17-18 more realistic. I just need time on the bike at this point, and to drop some ballast. Former begets the latter though. So I'm willing to go along. The external motivation will be welcome ![]()

I will PM and we can maybe ride soon. There are a bunch of tri-geeks that hit it hard and myDeltoid buddy has worked out with them but they are SERIOUS and many have done full iron-men. Too much for me...

| Have you tried for Yargo state park? It is a small loop of 22 miles on the longest path but you can do multiple loops and take different paths for new dirt. Fort Yargo is located in Winder about an hour north of KATL on 316. |

We did the Covington Century a few weeks ago and I realized at 40 miles I had some more I could pump but not another sixty. My Deltoid buddy went the full 100. I did 50. Well done but it was my first and the start was worse than the Peachtree. Too many people too close and too much jockeying. Reports said there were between 800 and 1000 cyclists and it was packed at the start. In the future, I will gravitate towards the back to stay out of the furball. A few years ago, in the Half on Thanksgiving, I was tripped and twisted an ankle because some dipstick decided he wanted to pass everyone. The pack is no place to be with people of widely varying skills.
