| Old Skool | Heya everyone, Me and skibum are going to be booking our flight's hopefully by the end of the week, and we'll do the rental cars when do we do that. We've been waiting to get our class schedules to make sure we don't have exams on the day's we'll be gone (the ski trip dates fall directly between our spring break dates, so we'll both be missing a day or so of school). This is the list of people that have shown interest, and I'm holding back on a few folks who said they were maybe's (though I might have thrown on a few of ya'll by mistake). -John Herreshoff -Skibum515 -The Wife -Stultus -Montanapilot -Photopilot -WillFly4Food -FL270 -Ophir -RPM -FlyChicaga -SkyGuyEd -Tele_Pilot -MTSU_Av8r I threw everyone on there that is from the area, I'm assuming ya'll will at least come out for a beer ![]() I know that a few of you have scheduling issues, so if you could give us a go/no go on this as soon as you can that'd be grrreeeaaat. Also, if you're going to go can ya'll please e-mail me the following: -Name -Phone number we can contact with you (to make a list for while we're out there, cell phone's would be best) -E-mail address -Prefered ski resorts we hit up What else do we need to do? Ideas? We're getting pretty psyched up to go out west and do some skiing here. We went up to Nub's Nob here in Michigan to demo some equip for me. Ended up on a pair of Fischer World Cup SC's, 155 cm. Really short, but these things are amazing. It's a softened version of their race ski's, so it's super fast, but super easy to turn, and has super duper grip. It's kind of weird being on ski's so short with me being about 5'10" and 150 lbs. But they work somehow. I also jumped on a pair of Rossi 9S, 150 cm's. They were a little too quick for me, and didn't turn quite as easy as the Fischers. I can't wait to try these things out west ![]() Cheers John Herreshoff |

| Old Skool | Ya'll want to plan one big dinner at the cabin on one night for everyone, including those in the area that didn't want to ski? |
| |

| Old Skool | That'd be great. Ya'll think we should try to work out an entire schedule for after skiing stuff to do? Cheers John Herreshoff |

| Old Skool | What does everyone else want to do after skiing? Cause if you want to lounge by fires, play pool, watch dvds, you all are welcome to, even if you aren't spending the night. But I'd imagine that most of the couples will want to go off on their own for dinner and a quiet evening. Most places to go to in the area other then clubs, are going to cost some money. So I guess as far as schedule goes, I'll just say open invites at our place, and other then that maybe some one wants to make a list of places to go in the area of interest? |

| Big Chief's Woman | John - can you remind us all again what the dates are so when it comes up, those of us with airline schedules can try to bid off? Also - was a ski area picked or is it just somewhere in the SLC area? trying to keep everyone together (in the same local) would be preferrable if we're all going to keep meeting up during the weekend....otherwise, it's via cars depending on weather/driving conditions and all that fun stuff... |

| Update from my front: Just had a roommate go temporarily insane and get engaged. On the wise advice of his fiance he will be moving out to save money (to buy her a bigger ring, B**CH!) thus leaving us to cover his end of the rent. At this point in time it's more money than any of us can/will pay so our locale is up in the air. Updates when they come |

| Old Skool | Kristie, The dates are skiing on February 27th, 28th and 29th. We're traveling on the 26th and March 1st. As far as resorts, there have been a few suggestions but I'm waiting for some ones from the people that are going to be there. I'd setup a poll on here and say "Let's do the top three" but people that are not going could vote then, which I think would be unfair to those headed out. Or do you think we should go and just set things and be like "Hey, here's what's up...*smack!*" ? Either method works for me, I have little experience doing this kinda stuff so I'm kinda guessing here ![]() Cheers John Herreshoff |

| Old Skool | If I were to pick three resorts to ski at, I would say we should do the Bird (which I have never done myself), Alta, and Park City. But that's just me. And any of the resorts have their pluses and minuses. Plus we really ought to look into getting a place all together so that we can hang out afterwards without having to find everyone else. I would nominate Park City as the place to stay so that we can partake of the nightlife there. |

| My wife is currently in flight attendant training and will be on reserve during that time. Otherwise we would seriously consider going. Hopefully next year will work best for us. |

If you have a complex intinerary you will lose everyone all weekend and never have time to get to know one another. I plan trips for people all the time (side business) and I would seriously urge you to make the plan simple. Tony's suggestion sounds right on to me. As for my time, I will certainly ski the Bird with you all any day. I have a hard time justifying paying for a ticket when I have a pass there. Also, IMHO, the Bird is the best for snow and lift access, that is why I chose to ski there. JH, I know you are stoked on those skis but consider something fatter and longer while you are here if there is powder. I have my slalom skis and love to carve on them but then the white stuff gets deep, they are the wrong tools to use. I would urge everyone to consider demoing skis while you are here. You can reference the wx forecast before you come to see what the snow/powder will be like. My 2 cents. |

| Senior Member | Any ski rental shop will demo skis. Demo is a glorified word for rent but it means they are well tuned and this year's skis too. Essentially, if you do the math it takes a long time of Demoing to pay for the cost of new skis and bindings. When you demo you will get the tuning, the latest and greatest, the right ski for the day (powder, carving, mid-fat, etc.) and you don't have to carry them across the country. |

I want to stay in Park City. If you are up for it, let me know, either here or by PM, and let me know your arrival and departure dates and how many people there are in your party. I'll check stuff out and find a condo or house or something like that. |

[/ QUOTE ] Just a warning to all: while Snowbird is my absolute favorite resort, its difficulty ratings are highly relative; most blue square runs at the Bird would be black diamonds most other places. It's quite a challenging resort, particularly for those used to midwestern/northeastern bunny hills. Novice skiers/boarders will have a better time at Brighton, Park City or (gasp) Deer Valley where milder terrain is in greater abundance. Seasoned diehards, however, will definitely want to head straight for the tram line. ![]() |

| Old Skool | Heya everyone, So my inclination is that we should start doing this on an e-mail list as then we can get thoughts and feelings from everyone that is going to be going. If you e-mailed me your contact info already, please re-email it to john.herreshoff@wmich.edu My other e-mail is pretty jacked up right now and I can't get anything from it. Cheers John Herreshoff |

| John, an e-mail is headed your way shortly. I like Tony's idea of going in on a house/condo type thing in Park City, if we can get enough interested folks to make it reasonably cost-efficient. Tony, you may count me in on such a plan if you cook one up. This plan also has the advantage that we can divide up by relative ability level and fan out each day ... any non-skiers can do their thing, the intermediates (like me) can go somewhere as a group, and the crazies who like backcountry can go do that. We'll make sure to have the rescue helicopter on speed dial (j/k). Then, after skiing, those who wanted could get together for dinner, shooting the breeze, painting the town, etc, and couples could split off for time on their own, etc. Makes sense to me. For those who are airfare shopping, fares are pretty low at the moment. I'm finding east coast tickets for as low as $227.90 (basically $198 plus all of Uncle Sam's fees) on most airlines. I'll probably fly NW or CO so I can take advantage of free upgrades and ride in first. (Gotta love being WP Elite!) FL270 |

| Airfare update ... SLC is this week's "featured destination" for Southwest Airlines on their weekly e-mail specials. $34 to $94 each way from pretty much any city SWA serves. Check it out. FL270 |

| Old Skool | He's refering to people that snowboard, some resorts (like Alta, Deer Valley also?) don't allow snowboarding. |

| I'm most definitely there. I'm trying to get JDFlight and my instructor to join me as well, but that's kind of up in the air. I'm game for heading to any of the resorts and am really not picky. As long as my teleskis are sliding on snow, I'm happy. I'll drop a PM your way, John. ![]() -PhotoPilot (Jeremy) |
